German Federal Minister Names DFDS Ro/Ro Vessel
The Danish shipping company DFDS and Volkswerft Stralsund held a ceremony for newbuild no. 500: On the fitting-out quay at the shipyard the special-purpose Ro/Ro vessel was named Ark Germania by Prof. Dr. Johanna Wanka, German Federal Minister of Education and Research, in the presence of 150 invited guests. In the weeks following the naming ceremony Volkswerft will continue the work on the “Roll on - Roll off Cargo” special-purpose vessel.

Naviera Contracts Damen for Two Fast Crew Suppliers
Juan Pablo Vega, president of Mexican offshore operator Naviera Integral, signed a contract for two Damen Fast Crew Suppliers 5009. With these vessels Naviera Integral will continue to serve its client PEMEX, delivering personnel and cargo from and to platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. Both vessels will be operating out of Ciudad del Carmen, Mexico’s main offshore hub. The 50-meter crew boats, designed with the Damen patented Sea Axe bow, are currently under construction at Damen yards in Vietnam.

Coast Guard, Partners Perfom Simulated Oil Spill
Coast Guard Sector Anchorage personnel along with federal, state, local, tribal partners and industry representatives conducted mutual aid drills in Anchorage and Deadhorse, Wednesday. During the drill, participants tested their ability to establish a Unified Command, implement the North Slope Mutual Aid Agreement and deploy equipment in response to a simulated oil spill at the remote Nikaitchuq Project at Spy Island near Deadhorse.

Titanic ll Model Tank Testing to be in Germany
Blue Star Line in conjunction with German hydrodynamic service and consulting company Hamburg Ship Model Basin (HSVA) will next month be conducting the first model testing of the proposed 'Titanic II'. A 9.3m wooden model of Titanic II will be put through resistance and powering tests in a 300m long tank at HSVA’s Hamburg facilities in mid-September. Coral Sea Bulker Drifted Dangerously: ATSB Release Findings
In the early hours of 18 May 2012, while transiting the Coral Sea, ID Integrity’s main engine shut down when its fuel pump reversing mechanism came free and jammed. This caused the camshaft to bend and slip in a drive coupling which resulted in the camshaft being out of timing and therefore the engine could not be restarted. The ship drifted in a westerly direction towards the Australian coast and the Great Barrier Reef.

Höegh LNG Awarded FLNG pre-FEED Study Contract
Höegh LNG say they have signed a contract with an Asia based national oil company to conduct pre-FEED engineering work for an offshore floating LNG facility (FLNG) with 2 million tonnes per annum production capacity. The work will be finalised in the first quarter of 2014. Provided that the conclusion of the engineering work is positive, the intention of the client is to execute a full front-end engineering design (FEED) in the first half of 2014. At the recent Oregon Coast Economic Summit, Oregon’s Senator Jeff Merkley announced plans to introduce the “Marine Debris Emergency Act,” a bill to help communities affected by marine debris emergencies. Somali Pirates Shift Long-term Hijacked Vessel Closer to Beach
A Spanish Maritime Patrol Aircraft from EU Naval Force has overflown the pirate controlled fishing vessel 'FV Naham 3'and observed that the vessel had moved from its sea anchorage to a Somali beach in the Galmudug region. Armed men were sighted on board FV Naham 3, however, no hostages have been seen in or near the vessel. FV Naham 3 has been in armed pirate hands since it was pirated in the Indian Ocean on 26 March 2012.
