Director Brian Salerno Sworn in at BSEE
Brian Salerno was sworn in on August 26 as the Director of the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement. Salerno retired as a Vice Admiral in the U.S. Coast Guard in 2012, after more than 36 years of active duty service. ABB Installs Powerful North Sea HVDC Wind Connector
ABB has installed the world’s highest-voltage offshore converter station in the North Sea. Alternating current electricity generated in three wind farms off the coast of Germany will be converted on the platform into high-voltage direct current (HVDC) for transmission to the mainland. The Coast Guard inform that 3 boaters were rescued by a good Samaritan Sunday morning after spending 21 hours treading water in Lake Erie after their fishing vessel capsized near Conneaut, Ohio. Fortunately they wore lifejackets. The three were found treading water, hanging onto the hull of their capsized 20-foot fishing vessel. They were suffering from hypothermia and were transported to shore, where EMS took them to a local hospital.
