Irving Pumps $300m into Halifax Shipyard for Naval Builds
Irving Shipbuilding announced several contract awards today for Nova Scotia and Canadian suppliers as part of part of the Halifax Shipyard Modernization Program, a two-year engineering and construction investment to prepare the company’s facilities to build Canada's future combatant ships. Site preparation and preliminary construction is well underway, with major demolition and construction to begin soon. To date a total value of $127.7 million in contracts have been awarded.

DCT Gdansk and Maersk Line announced the arrival of the first Triple-E class vessel – Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller – to DCT Gdansk container terminal on her maiden voyage from Asia to Europe. The arrival of the world’s largest container ship in Gdansk is a memorable moment for the city and the region, as well as an unquestioned milestone for the entire Polish container business. Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller can carry 18,000 TEU (20-foot containers) and is the largest container ship ever built.

Submersible Cyclops : Hull Design "Revolutionary"
OceanGate Inc. announced the completion of the initial carbon fiber hull design and feasibility study for its next generation manned submersible – Cyclops. Under a contract issued to Boeing Research & Technology (BR&T), OceanGate, the Applied Physics Laboratory at the University of Washington (APL-UW) and Boeing have validated the basic hull design for a submersible vehicle able to reach depths of 3,000 meters.

Autonomous Surveillance PowerBuoy Deployed Off NJ Coast
Ocean Power Technologies (OPT) have deployed the buoy 35 miles off the coast and in 43 meters of water depth, to perform in-ocean tests on its proprietary APB to further validate the technology's capacity for expanded ocean surveillance. This latest deployment is in connection with a previously-announced Cooperative Research and Development Agreement ("CRADA") with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security ("DHS") Science & Technology Directorate ("S&T").

The cargo ship 'Inzhener Trubin' has left Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, where it had made a stopover on the way from Yamal’s Sabetta port through the Northern Sea Route to China. Port of Houston Records Upward Monthly Revenue
Monthly operating revenue exceeded $20 million again in July 2013. The achievement was high on a list of positives that Executive Director Len Waterworth shared in his report to the Port Commission of the Port of Houston Authority at its recent monthly meeting. Dredging projects have also been put in hand. The Port Authority generated $21 million in July operating revenue, surpassing July 2012's performance by $1.4 million or 7 percent.
