Lloyds Statutory Alert: Paris MoU to Start Inspecting MLC, 2006 Requirements
In May 2013, the Committee of the Paris Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control (Paris MoU) adopted amendments to the Memorandum to include the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 (MLC) as a relevant instrument. This makes the MLC requirements officially subject to port state control (PSC), with the potential for more detailed inspections, expanded inspections and the possibility of detention in serious cases of non-compliance or where hazardous conditions exist.

Boskalis H1 2013 Results Pointing to Record Profit
In their half year 2013 report the Boskalis Board of Management expects that, barring unforeseen circumstances, net profit for the 2013 financial year will be at least EUR 330 million, including the book gain of approximately EUR 50 million on the sale of the 40% stake in Archirodon that will be accounted for in the second half of the year. Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis) realized a net profit of EUR 123 million in the first half of 2013 (H1 2012: EUR 102 million).
Ireland/UK HVDC Subsea Cable Link Commissioned by ABB
ABB commissions world's highest capacity HVDC Light underwater power link, a 500 MW HVDC inter-connection between Ireland and the UK enables leveraging of wind energy and facilitates power flows between the two countries. ABB has delivered the East West Interconnector to EirGrid, the Irish transmission system operator. The 500-megawatt (MW) transmission connection is the highest capacity link of its kind, based on voltage source converter (VSC) technology, to go into commercial operation.

Jan De Nul Group has ordered a multi-purpose offshore support vessel from the Uljanik Shipyard in Pula, Croatia, for delivery in 2015. Kongsberg Maritime Report Strong Growth in Q2 2013
Kongsberg is reporting operating revenues in the second quarter of 2013 of MNOK 4 097, up 4.2 per cent year-on-year. EBITDA came to MNOK 513 in Q2, compared with MNOK 525 in Q2 2012. At mid-year, operating revenues totalled MNOK 8 130, translating into growth of 4.7 per cent from mid-year 2012. The expansion in H1 has been driven by Kongsberg Maritime, which posted growth of 13.9 per cent compared with H1 2012, and is continuing to report a significant influx of new orders.

Salvors Plan to Fly Oil Off Stranded Bulk Carrier
Marine salvors plan to airlift oil from the abandoned oil-leaking cargo ship 'Kiani Satu' stranded off the beach at Buffels Bay, near Knysna, on the Western Cape of South Africa. The Johannasburg online newspaper 'Times Live' citing SAMSA spokesman Captain Nigel Campbell, reports that salvors are currently drilling into [bunker] tanks to take the fuel oil out, but as it has not been heated for a week they plan to put it into plastic tanks and fly it off the ship using helicopters.
