Timber-carrier Refloated After Fortnight on Beach
The 'MV Danio' has been successfully re-floated off the Farne Islands, off Northumberland, on the coast of NE England. Checks are still being made but so far there are no reports of any pollution, reports the Maritime and Coastguard Agency. At 04.30 on Saturday 16 March, the MV Danio reported to Humber Coastguard that they had run aground on the Farne Islands. Seahouses RNLI all-weather lifeboat attempted to tow the vessel off the rocks at high water but to no avail.

HII Awarded CVN 72 Refuelling & Overhaul Contract
Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) awarded a $2.6-billion cost-plus-incentive-fee contract for work on the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier 'Abraham Lincoln' (CVN 72). The work will be performed at the company's Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division where it arrived recently. Lincoln was originally scheduled to arrive at NNS on Feb. 14 but was among the projects delayed due to uncertainties surrounding the defense budget and funding of the work.

Tubbataha Reef Wreck Removal Completed
The stern section, the last module of the former minehunter 'USS Guardian' has now been removed by salvors. In January 2013 the Navy mine countermeasures ship USS Guardian ran aground on a coral reef in the Philippines, inside Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park. The Navy removed the approximately 15,000 gallons of fuel aboard the ship and decided that the safest way to extract the Guardian from the reef was to deconstruct and carry it away in smaller sections.

Cruise ships agree to adopt the strictest measures to reduce air pollution when entering Italy's Venice Lagoon.
