There are very few forms of learning which are as effective and personal as mentoring. And nowhere is mentoring more important than it is in the maritime industry. It is with this in mind that a group of volunteers have created the on-line “International Maritime Mentoring Community” at www.MaritimeMentors.com. This is a 100% volunteer/free site that exists only for the betterment of the maritime industry.

Naval radar experts met in San Diego to share their expertise and experiences with the operation and support of the Saab Sea Giraffe naval surveillance radar. It created the StandardFlex modules for the Flyvefisken class of patrol vessels in 1995 that was built specifically to operate with the containerized modules. Jumbo Wins EnQuest Offshore Contract
Jumbo has been awarded a North Sea FPSO mooring, installation and hook-up contract by EnQuest. EnQuest is redeveloping the Ardmore and Duncan fields as Alma and Galia respectively. Ocean Offshore's 'Island Pioneer' Chartered
Island Offshore has agreed a new 2-year contract for the SCV Island Pioneer with Ocean Mexicana SA de CV. The sub-sea construction vessel (SCV) has been working for OM since delivery in April 2006 and the new contract will run in direct continuation with the current contract. Island Pioneer is of P101 Ulstein Design and is equipped with DP II, a 140 ton offshore crane and accommodation for 87 persons. The vessel will perform a variety of subsea and light construction work during this charter.

First Order for LNG-fuelled MAN Two-Stroke Engine
MAN Diesel & Turbo confirms its first order, from USA's TOTE Inc., for its low-speed, dual-fuel ME-GI engine. American shipping company, TOTE, has signed a contract with its compatriot shipyard NASSCO in San Diego for the construction of two new state-of-the-art containerships with an option for three more vessels for primarily domestic services. North Sea Ship Collision: 4 Dead 8 Missing
MOL's RoRo 'Baltic Ace' sinks in shallow water after colliding with container ship 'Corvus J' off the coast of Holland. The 148-metre (485-foot) car carrier Baltic Ace, sailing under the Bahamas flag, carrying cars from Zeebrugge in Belgium to Kotka in Finland, took water after the collision and the 24 crew took to the liferafts, reports BBC News. Petrobas Strike Deepwater Oil Offshore Brazil
Petrobras discover a new light hydrocarbon accumulation in ultra deepwaters of the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin (see map). BAE Systems to Build PSV's for Jackson Offshore
Jackson Offshore Operators contracts BAE Systems’ shipyard in Jacksonville, Florida, to build 2 platform supply vessels (PSVs). The contract reflects continued growth in U.S. commercial shipbuilding for BAE Systems and is another major step forward in the company’s support to the oil and gas industry. Each of the Jackson Offshore Operators vessels will be qualified under the U.S. Jones Act and will measure 252 feet long and 60 feet wide.
