Damen Continues to Forge Australian Connections
Damen Shipyards Group has sent a high level delegation to meet with key members of the Australian shipbuilding industry, signifying its commitment to the SEA 1180 Program. With an eye on maximizing local industry content and ensuring long-term Australian jobs, the aim of the visit was to strengthen business relationships borne out of the Damen Industry Briefings held earlier this year, the shipbuilder said.
Ocean Group Takes Delivery of First Damen Tug
Italian maritime service provider Ocean S.r.l. has welcomed its first Damen tug – a Stan Tug 2608 – into its fleet. The company, part of the Ocean-Team Group, will deploy the vessel in harbor towage operations in the ports of Monfalcone and Porto Nogaro in the northern reaches of the Adriatic Sea. Aqualiner Orders Four Damen Waterbus Vessels
Recently, Aqualiner signed a contract with Damen Shipyards for four Damen Waterbus 2407 vessels. The waterbuses will provide public transport services in the Belgian city of Antwerp, as part of a wider transportation program also including land-based public transport services and road improvement schemes. This is the first order for the new Waterbus 2407. Although new, the Waterbus 2407 is based on proven solutions developed by Damen’s in-house R&D team.
Damen Completes Keppel Verolme Takeover
Damen Shiprepair & Conversion (DSC), a part of Damen Shipyards Group, said it has finalized its acquisition of the Keppel Verolme shipyard from Keppel Offshore & Marine. DSC’s acquisition of the yard follows an initial agreement made between the two parties in April of this year. From July 1, the Keppel Verolme shipyard, including its 250 staff members, will continue operations under the Damen flag.
TransLink Orders Second Damen SeaBus
TransLink, Metro Vancouver’s regional transportation authority, has signed a contract with the Damen Shipyards Group for an additional SeaBus, to ferry passengers between downtown Vancouver and North Vancouver in British Columbia, Canada. Damen Stan Pontoon Delivered to Norway
Norwegian maritime transport company Skyssbåtservice has taken delivery of a Stan Pontoon 4512 from the Damen Shipyards Group. The 45-meter barge will be capable of fulfilling a variety of roles in both the general maritime transport sector projects and the oil and gas industry. As well as carrying general cargo along the Norwegian coast on its 12 metric tons per m² deck, the barge is fitted with a bow ramp giving it full RoRo capability.
BC Ferries Orders Two Damen Newbuilds
Following an extensive, multi-phased international tender process, Canadian ferry operator BC Ferries has awarded Damen Shipyards Group a contract to construct two 81-meter ferries. The vessels are part of BC Ferries’ ongoing fleet renewal program. BC Ferries operates 24 ferry routes along the coast of British Columbia, Canada. The new vessels will be able to cover many of the company’s routes to the Northern and Southern Gulf Islands off the coast of Vancouver.

Damen To Build New Beam Trawler
Damen Maaskant Shipyards Stellendam (Maaskant) is to build a new beam trawler for the Netherlands fishing fleet. The client is the Hakvoort Brothers from Urk, the Netherlands. The vessel, which will use a stock hull, will join another fishing boat operated by Hakvoort Brothers. This was also built by Damen Maaskant yard, 17 years ago. Based on a well proven design, the new trawler will be 41.05 meters in length and have a beam of 9 meters. As yet unnamed, her registration number will be UK-46.
Saqr Port Orders Damen ASD Tug
Saqr Port, part of Rash Al Khaimah (RAK) Ports, has signed a contract with the Damen Shipyards Group for the delivery of an ASD 2913 tug. The vessel will be built a short distance away at Albwardy Damen in Sharjah and will be delivered in time for the opening of the new bulk terminal at Saqr Port in mid-2018. Saqr Port is a major bulk-handing port in the Middle East and a vital part of the regional economy.
Damen InvaSave BWSM Makes World Premiere
On April 25 Damen’s IMO certified InvaSave ballast water management system (BWMS) received its world premiere in front of an invited audience courtesy of Groningen Seaports at the harbour of Delfzijl and Eemshaven, The Netherlands. This marks the culmination of a seven-year program to develop an effective mobile BWMS for use in ports. The premiere was a joint presentation between Damen Shipyards, the designated operator MariFlex and Groningen Shipyards, as well as Royal Wagenborg.
Damen Showcases New Water Bus
At a recent event at its headquarters in Gorinchem, Damen Shipyards demonstrated its next generation composite Water Bus, the 2407, to an invited international audience. Built from FRP (fiber reinforced polymer) the new class will give operators reduced fuel consumption, less maintenance, no corrosion or fatigue problems and a durable structure, the shipbuilder said. Passengers will enjoy journeys at speeds of up to 21 knots that are safe, quiet and with minimal vibration.

Damen Unveils Emergency Response Vessel
Damen has introduced a new first line assistance vessel, the Responder 5413, engineered specifically for assistance in disaster relief and emergency response operations. Developed partly in response to the increasing number of extreme weather events across the globe, the versatile 54-meter vessel is designed to be a first response vessel for unrestricted service. Based on Damen’s multipurpose vessel MPV 5413 design, the Responder 5413 demonstrates proven seakeeping behavior.
New Damen Workboat for Bristol Port
The Bristol Port Company has taken delivery of a Damen Shoalbuster 2308S. Modified with several customized options, the vessel will be able to take on a multifunctional role that includes plough dredging, towing, pilotage and survey duties. This is the first contract between Damen and the Bristol Port Company. Construction of the new 23-meter-long Shoalbuster took place at Damen Shipyards Hardinxveld, in the Netherlands.
Eight Damen Interceptors for Panama
The National Air and Naval Service of Panama (Servicio Nacional Aeronaval - SENAN) has taken delivery of four Interceptor 1102 vessels from Damen Shipyards Group. The President of Panama, Juan Carlos Varela, performed the christening ceremonies of all four vessels on February 6, 2017. Coinciding with the vessel handover, SENAN also signed a second contract with Damen for an additional batch of four Interceptors.
VSTEP, Damen Partner for Bahamas Defence Training
A recent cooperation agreement between Damen and VSTEP has been established for the delivery of a NAUTIS Full Mission Bridge Simulator with Alphatron Marine equipment to the Royal Bahamas Defense Force. The delivery is part of the Sandy Bottom Project, which sees the Defense Force acquire a range of Damen patrol vessels, upgrade its existing fleet and develop its port and base infrastructure. VSTEP, with input from Damen, will develop four simulated vessels for use in its custom simulator.

Damen Secures Nigerian Patrol Vessel Order
Just over a year after it took delivery of the second of two FCS 3307 Patrol vessels, Homeland Integrated Offshore Services Limited (Homeland) of Nigeria has ordered one more of the same class with an option on a second, to be named Guardian 3 and Guardian 4. Like their two predecessors, the two vessels are being supplied as a turnkey solution. The Damen Group is taking care of delivery and crew training, as well as the design and build.
