TLKSR Rudder

Becker Marine Systems receives order for 93m2 TLKSR rudders - the largest ever built.

93m2 TLKSR Rudder ordered by STX O&S for 16,000 TEU container vessels Becker Marine Systems has been elected by STX Offshore & Shipbuilding to design and supply the largest ever built full spade rudders for Zodiac’s container vessels of more than 90m2. The largest rudders so far delivered by Becker Marine Systems are 85m2 TLKSR® rudders that were installed on five 14,000 TEU container vessels for MSC by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine
Engineering Co., Ltd. (DSME).

The new order also is Becker Marine Systems’ well proven TLKSR® (Twisted leading edge king support rudder) for the 400m long and 54m wide 16,000 TEU container vessels. When it comes to the optimal rudder design to avoid cavitation and reduced fuel consumption the Becker TLKSR® is the best choice. These big benefits and the remarkable reference list of rudders bigger than 75m2 convinced STX to purchase from Becker Marine Systems. This very remarkable order for six of the largest container ships continues the long, very professional and reliable business relation between STX Offshore & Shipbuilding and Becker Marine Systems.

STX and Becker have already cooperated successfully in earlier large container ship projects. The rudders will be produced in Europe and Asia at Becker Marine Systems’ subcontracting fabricators. The first delivery is planned for September 2013 and the delivery for the sixth and last rudder will take place in April 2015. Together with the order for the rudders, STX placed an order for 6 Becker Mewis Duct with an option of 3 more for the STX MR Product Tankers for various ship owners. In total, Becker Marine Systems has received orders for16 Becker Mewis Duct® for the same type and ship size from STX. The Becker Mewis Duct® are designed to gain up to 6% propulsion efficiency in loaded
condition.
