Caterpillar's new 16-cylinder, 78 liter engine will be revealed for the first time at the 2013 CIPPE Show in Beijing.

Manufactured in Lafayette, Indiana, the new Cat 3516C (HD) engine builds on the established track record of the 3512C (HD) engine, which has logged millions of hours in oilfields around the globe, including in China.

The engine will be available in three ratings: 2,461 bkW (3,300 bhp), 2,349 bkW (3150 bhp) and 2,237 bkW (3000 bhp) @ 1900 rpm. The engine meets U.S. EPA Tier 2 Emissions for North America as well as  Tier 1 Emissions for international markets.  Based on the proven Cat 3512C (HD) platform, the 3516C (HD) provides a winning combination of proven reliability and durability, power and torque output and low life cycle costs.  The new engine will be available through the global Cat dealer network in summer 2013.

“With the 3516C (HD), well service OEMs will be able to provide their customers with the most reliable and only single source 3,300 bhp well stimulation drive train in the market,” said Scott Roberts, Caterpillar Global Petroleum well service product manager.  “The 3516C (HD) will provide the same level of reliability and durability that customers depend on today from the industry leading 3512C (HD) 2,500 bhp engine.  Coupled with a Cat TH55 transmission, customers will experience optimum performance and maximum uptime on the job with matching engine and transmission service intervals.”

“The higher horsepower 3516C (HD) engine is coming online at a very advantageous time to match the pressure pumping demands in global market, especially in China.” Diana Hopkins, Caterpillar Global Petroleum product definition manager noted.
