Bayonne Container Terminal Upgrade Celebrated
GCT Global Container Terminals Inc. (GCT) says it celebrated the grand opening of its newly expanded, semi-automated facility in Bayonne, New Jersey, which is intended to be the most productive marine terminal on the US East Coast once complete in summer 2014.
Following four years of careful planning and construction, more than 400 of GCT’s customers, stakeholders, vendors, contractors, workforce, and staff were on hand to witness the efficiency and optimization that is at the heart of the container terminal.
Global Terminal was designed with safety in mind. The semi-automation of container handling combined with the comprehensive training is a major contributor to improved terminal safety and the development of skilled opportunities for the workforce. For customers, innovations implemented into Global’s expansion provide carriers the best infrastructure and most reliable technology to service the largest vessels transiting the Suez and Panama canals.
“In all GCT’s operations, densification is our strategy to avoid the use of additional lands as container volumes grow,” said Stephen Edwards, President and CEO of GCT Global Container Terminals Inc. “With the modernized terminal now online, we look forward to providing the most productive capacity and capability to support our customers in realizing their growth plans.”
