MSI Certified for Master 100 Tons License Training

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

July 16, 2002

Dr. Gene Guest, Director of MarineSafety International (MSI) announced receipt of U.S. Coast Guard certification for the 81-hour Master 100 Tons course effective July 1, 2002. Applicants who successfully complete this training will have satisfied the exam requirements for an original, renewal or reissuance of a license as Master of Steam or Motor Vessels of Not More Than 200 Gross tons (except oceans), and will not be required to take the U.S. Coast Guard tests pertinent to their license (examination modules 065XX, 072XX, 077XX or 221XX). MSI prepared the Master 100 Tons course to serve the needs of the U.S. Navy, a major client. This course adds to MSI's existing inventory of USCG and STCW courses, which includes Radar Observer (Ocean, Inland, Rivers), Radar Observer Recertification, ARPA, ECDIS, Bridge Resource Management and 3- and 5-day Shiphandling. Navy personnel are not required to meet USCG and STCW requirements; but recently, many Navy commands have been seeking such training and pursuing licenses and certifications for their personnel as professional development tools and career incentives.
