Crowley to Order More Container/Chassis Combinations

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

March 20, 2003

Crowley Liner Services will acquire 750 new and 45-ft. (102" wide) high-cube container/chassis combinations. These new boxes and chassis are in addition to the 2,400 53-ft. (102" wide) and 45-ft. (102" wide) high-cube container/chassis combinations already received this year. Crowley Maritime Corporation's board of directors approved the long-term lease of this equipment at a meeting last week in Oakland, Calif. Equipment providers and delivery dates have not yet been finalized. The new containers, each with 3,268 cubic feet of capacity, will be deployed in Crowley's Latin America and Puerto Rico/Caribbean Ro/Ro services, which include the countries of Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas and Virgin Islands. Like the containers delivered earlier this year, the 750 new boxes will be built to Crowley's security specifications with hardware that allows for an additional bolt-type seal to lock the door to the doorframe. In addition, heavy-duty plating and special round-headed huck bolts will be used on the doors, making it especially difficult for anyone to gain illegal access. In addition, the new boxes will bear new markings making them easier to identify as members of the Crowley fleet. The familiar red, blue and black logo remains on the front and back of each box, but on the sides the word Crowley has been affixed in large, white letters and the company web site address has been added.
