The international accredited registrar and classification society DNV GL announced the award of three Marine Equipment Directive (MED) certificates to the China State Shipbuilding Corporation Marine Technology Co., Ltd. (CSSC CMC).

The MED module B certificates for Echo Sounder, Doppler Speed Log, and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) were presented during the Nor-Shipping trade fair in Oslo, it said.

“These three latest MED certificates represent the continuation of a long and productive cooperation between DNV GL and CSSC,” said Norbert Kray, DNV GL’s Regional Manager for Greater China. “For these latest certificates we were able to mobilize our global team and leverage the latest technologies to deliver an extremely efficient approval process.”

In 2015, CSSC CMC approached DNV GL for MED certification on navigational equipment such as radar, speed and distance measuring equipment (SDME), heading control system (HCS), and gyro compass. These four equipment groups received MED certificates in 2018.

In 2019, CSSC CMC applied for certification of Echo Sounders, Doppler Speed Logs, and GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System). All of the tests were successfully completed in May of 2019 under the supervision of DNV GL navigation expert Harald Bluhm.

“CSSC CMC appreciates very much DNV GL’s rapid response to our request for certification of the three latest equipment types. The approvals were given in only three months thanks to the quick response and professional technical support from the teams in Shanghai and Hamburg,” said Mr. Jia Sitao, Division Chief of General Office of CSSC.

CSSC Marine Technology Co., Ltd. (CSSC CMC) belongs to the CSSC Group and was formed from the merger of Shanghai Navigation Equipment Co., Ltd and the Beijing System Engineering Research Institute. The Shanghai Navigation Equipment plant has been in operation for some 150 years. CSSC CMC has their focus on navigational equipment and engine automation.
