Damen Shipyards Galati Welders Scoop Awards

 Welders from Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania recently took part in the 2018 Arc Cup International Welding Competition in ZhuZhou, China.  

At the event, the Galati welders excelled, scooping a number of prestigious awards. Over 380 participants from all over the world took part in the competition.
 
The Damen team consisted of Emanuel Andrei Broasca and Petrica Ghibergiu from Hull Division I, Petrisor Goga and Gabriel Codreanu from Piping Facility, Daniel Pintilie and Vasile Talmaciov from Hull Division IA, Alexandru Chisar and Marius Daniel Calmuc (head of the team) from the Welding Laboratory. 
 
All of the competitors had previously followed a training programme at the Damen Shipyards Galati Training Centre under the guidance of their foremen, Daniel Rarinca and Florin Angheluta.
 
The welders participated in a competition that features the categories shield metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, oxygen fuel gas welding, finished product welding and aluminium alloy welding in age categories up to 25 and between 25 and 35 years of age. They achieved the following awards:
Gold and first place per team
First place MMA/111 - Emanuel Andrei Broasca
Second place GTAW/141 - Petrisor Goga
Third place MMA/111 - Daniel Pintilie
Third place Welding Assembly - Gabriel Codreanu
Excellence Award for Aluminium Welding - Emanuel Andrei Broasca
Excellence Award for procedures 135 and 141 - Gabriel Codreanu, Petrica Ghibergiu, Vasile Talmaciov.
 
Speaking of the team’s success, its head, Marius Calmuc, said, “We are all very grateful for the expert guidance we received from our Training Centre.”
 
Head of the Galati Training Centre Luminita Gherghe attributed the team’s results to ambition, saying, “All of our welders have the drive to show they are the best – which I think they have now done.”
 
Marius signaled that the awards were just the start. “We are looking forward to competing further in the future.”
 
Upon their return to Galati, the yard’s management team arranged a small ceremony and celebration during which Managing Director Rino Brugge awarded the team with bonuses and promotions. 
 
Speaking at the event, Rino said, “I would like to congratulate our team members on their outstanding performance at the Arc Cup International Welding Competition in China. The awards they have secured are a clear demonstration of their commitment to quality and a testimony to the rich shipbuilding heritage of Galati, which delivers some of the best welding specialists in the world. On behalf of the whole of Damen, I am extremely proud of our colleagues and their achievements.”
 
The 2018 Arc Cup International Welding Competition is the opening event in the 2018 Belt and Road BRICS Skills Development and Technology competition. It aims to build an international platform for cooperation to promote and strengthen the technical level of welding.
