Two Simrad Radar Displays Launched

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

December 2, 2015

The new Simrad R2009 and R3016 Radar control units, two dedicated radar displays have been launched today for use with Simrad’s award winning radar antenna solutions. The Simrad R2009 Radar control features a 9” portrait display.  The Simrad R3016 boasts a 16” wide-screen display.

Both systems utilise an intuitive control interface with the latest generation of digital tuning to allow for optimal situational awareness in the most adverse conditions.  Outstanding target resolutions are achieved using beam sharpening technology when paired with the Simrad Broadband 3G/4G Radomes or Halo Pulse Compression arrays.

The R2009 and R3016 Radar control units are well suited for use as “stand alone” dedicated radar stations. Commercial operators will appreciate the professional-grade interface and ease of installation, even in demanding retrofit applications. Fishing captains will notice the complimentary design of the new Simrad S2009 and S2016 fish finder range.  Together, these innovative solutions add a significant dimension to Simrad’s commercial portfolio for non-SOLAS workboat, patrol and fishing vessels.

The Simrad R2009 and R3016 are built to meet tough working environments with robust bracket and flush-mount installation options meeting IPX7 water-resistance from all sides. The radar control units are operated by an integrated keypad and rotary dial with direct-access buttons located along the side of the display providing no-nonsense control of on-screen menu options. This proven control system is extremely comforting in rough seas, while travelling at speed or when operating with gloves on.

The 9” (R2009) is built around a high bright 480x800-pixel full colour display that can be used in the wheelhouse or a direct sunlit installation.  The compact footprint, high resolution and brilliant colour combine for a powerful alternative to existing radar solutions.  The Radar PPI is large enough to identify targets and hazards are accompanied with clear, easy to read information panels.

The 16” (R3016) has a 1366x768-pixel high-definition (15.6” diagonal widescreen) landscape display.   Featuring a 180mm highly detailed radar PPI, the widescreen display allows ample space for additional vessel data, radar settings and target tracking information.  Menus can be operated without obscuring the radar image for safe and efficient control.   An HDMI output is available to set up an optional secondary remote monitor.

“These new dedicated radar systems are well suited to our award winning products such as the Halo Pulse Compression Radar,” said Jose Herrero, MD Simrad Commercial Division, adding “Our team, continually strives to develop innovations that simplify the user experience and improve operational performance for our commercial clients.”

The R2009 and R3016 are planned to be available in a number of pre-configured kits along with Simrad Radar antennas. The R2009 will be available kitted with the Broadband 3G or 4G Radome and with the Halo™ 3 foot option. The R3016 will be available with the Halo 3, 4 and 6 foot radar options as well as the Simrad 10kW and 25kW HD Radar arrays for larger vessels.  Both the R2009 and R3016 systems feature Simrad Ethernet, dual NMEA 0183 ports and a NMEA 2000 port for additional connections to Simrad networks and sensor data.

Systems will begin shipping to customers in late Q1’ 2016.

Manufacturer Recommended Pricing will be available online for the different configurations starting as low as $2,699 US for the R2009 with Broadband 3G kit.
