Transport Engineering Course at OMAE 2014
HMC will host ASME Courses on Transport Engineering and Front End Engineering Design from June 7-8, 2014 at The Palace Hotel in San Francisco.
The OMAE is the flagship conference of the Ocean Offshore and Arctic Engineering Division of ASME. Every year it brings together engineers, researchers, academics, industry leaders and government leaders. In 2014, San Francisco will be the host city. HMC is proud to facilitate a course on Transport Engineering and Front End Engineering Design.
The offshore industry keeps innovating and is always looking for new challenges. Transport engineering, will remain an important topic in the next decades. The rules and regulations will be more stringent and the industry needs to improve the safety of operations keeping the environment in mind.
Course topics are Transport Engineering and Front End Engineering Design (FEED) transport related to modules, jackets and topside transport on module carriers and heavy lift vessels. To assure safety and adequate towing, a part of our course will deal with the design of the towage configuration and emergency towage arrangements. We will provide attendees a simulated visual demonstration of state of the art transport engineering and will address the common rules for fatigue damage assessment during ocean transport.
Nowadays large on- and offshore constructions are commonly built in places distant from their actual location of operation. This requires large ships to transport these constructions (e.g. topsides, jackets, JU Rigs, chemical processing modules, wind turbine parts). Shipbuilding engineers need to be familiar with the effects of waves and hydrodynamic forces on the hull and construction of a ship. Ships are built to resist these forces and last its minimum fatigue life suffering from continuous and varying types and magnitudes of hydrodynamic stress.
The course is beneficial for anyone who wants to understand the fundamentals of ocean transport engineering for modules, and any other voluminous and valuable project cargo, including considerations need for towing.
