European Funding Enhance INS NACOS
Research and development undertaken as part of FLAGSHIP, a part EU-funded maritime transport project, is being incorporated in to the newest version of SAM Electronics’ enhanced navigation product, the NACOS Platinum series.
The success of NACOS is based on the unique concept to functionally integrate radar operation, ECDIS and also automation - a key achievement supported by the FLAGSHIP programme. This integration provides enhanced support to the Officer on watch, whose main tasks are navigation, collision avoidance and control of the vessel´s safe track.
SAM Electronics’ NACOS Platinum series is based on identical components and utilizes a common network supporting the complete portfolio of RADARPILOT, ECDISPILOT, TRACKPILOT, and Conning Display as well as the Alarm, Monitoring and Control System, the Propulsion Control, and the Power Management System. The perfect combination of networked architecture and use of modular components ensures unprecedented levels of system scalability. The versatility of the NACOS Platinum Series is illustrated by the new IP-radar, which by direct connection to the ship’s IP network enables the complete radar image to be accessible from any workstation. Similarly, the ECDIS display can be made available for viewing in an engine control room, in the Captain’s office, or in public rooms of a cruise or ferry, a capability trialled and perfected as part of the FLAGSHIP programme.
Mr Herman de Meester, Coordinator of FLAGSHIP commented: “The adoption of specific learning in to new products for the advancement of the industry is exactly what EC projects such as FLAGSHIP are all about and are to be welcomed and encouraged. This is another example of the shipping industry working hard to meet and exceed performance standards.”
