Two of Evalend Shipping Co. S.A. newly purchased logger ships, the Ambassador and the Senator, have been placed in the Lasco Logger Pool. Evalend, a private management company in Athens, Greece, operates ten ships in its fleet, committed two Hakodate built loggers to the Pool, which is commercially managed by Lasco. Evalend will perform its own technical management of its vessels. In commenting on the announcement, Anton U. Pardini, President/COO of Lasco, said that EVALEND’S participation in the Pool “…reflects Lasco’s ongoing efforts to establish strategic partnerships with other maritime ventures who share a common vision and philosophy, committed to providing reliable service and quality vessels, in order to better utilize tonnage.” He added that this reflects Lasco’s continued efforts to attract quality vessel owner/operators to create the added value the Pool’s charter flexibility and one stop chartering services benefits for its customers. Pardini went on to call attention to Lasco’s constant efforts to improve its capabilities to make forward fixtures and reduce ballast legs, aggressively positioning cargo opportunities. “Taking best advantage of backhaul cargoes, triangulating ports of call within the Pacific markets and reducing unnecessary ballast days are key components”, Pardini stated, “of the Pool’s benefit to both shippers and Pool members.” Evalend’s Managing Director, Kriton Lendoudis, stated “Having realized that our company’s philosophy matches very well with Lasco’s philosophy, we have decided to join the Lasco Pool since the industry is really moving towards the so much needed rationalization, to provide the best possible service to shippers/charterers.” Lendoudis went on to say, “I really think that the only way to move forward in the future is through such kind of synergies and I find that pooling idea in general excellent.” The Lasco Logger Pool, established in 1999, is managed by Daniel Hall out of Lasco’s corporate headquarters in Portland, Oregon, with 19 vessels in the pool, including two vessels also recently added by Sincere of Taiwan.. In addition to Hall, a full team of dedicated staff work on chartering, operations, accounts and related services on behalf of the Pool from the Portland office and through the Lasco office in Tokyo, Japan, led by Kaz Oshima.
