IBIA appoints interim Chief Executive

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

August 2, 2011

Trevor Harrison has been appointed as Acting Chief Executive of the International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA). The move follows the recent resignation of Ian Adams, the former Chief Executive.

Trevor Harrison is a member of the IBIA Board, a barrister of more than 30 years' standing and author of the just published book, Legal Issues in Bunkering. He is undertaking the new role on a part-time basis in addition to his principal activities as a maritime arbitrator and commercial mediator.

IBIA Chairman Bob Lintott said: “In his capacity as an IBIA Board Member and before that as an Association member, Trevor has worked closely with the Secretariat on many different matters over the past few years. With his unequalled knowledge of IBIA's global objectives and internal functions, he is an excellent short-term fit for the role of Chief Executive and we are very grateful for his support and assistance at this time.”
He added:

“It is very much business as usual at IBIA and we look forward to seeing our members and the wider industry at our Barcelona Convention, starting on 2 November and at our Golf and Gala Dinner in Singapore on 2 September.”

The IBIA (Asia) Golf Challenge and the Inaugural IBIA (Asia) Gala Dinner will take place at the Warren Golf and Country Club and the Raffles Hotel, Singapore. The IBIA Annual Convention 2011 is being held at the Hotel Rey Juan Carlos l, Barcelona Spain.

About IBIA

The International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) exists to provide an international forum to address the concerns of all sectors of the international bunker industry; to represent the industry in discussions and negotiations with national and international policy makers, legislators and other groups and bodies; to review, clarify, improve, develop and endorse where appropriate, industry methods, practices and documentation; to increase the professional understanding and competence of all who work in the industry; to provide services and facilities for members and others as the Board shall from time to time consider appropriate.

IBIA gained consultative status with the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) in November 2005 and is represented at all relevant meetings.
IBIA actively seeks to involve its members through its Annual Convention by educating and motivating members to conclude on major issues and topics of the time, creating the “IBIA Position” to present to IMO.
IBIA champions the continued development of professionals within the bunker industry through its Bunker Courses and its Bunker Cargo Officer qualification.
