Port of Fujairah Receives First of Three New Tugs

In March 2015, Sanmar signed a contract with the Port of Fujairah for the construction of three 70 metric ton bollard pull RAmparts 2400SX tugs. The ceremony took place in Fujairah in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Saleh  Bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Chairman, Department of Industry and Economy, Government of Fujairah. The first vessel M/T Jabal Yabsa, which is the 16th vessel of its well proven class, has now made her way to Fujairah and begun operations.
 
The tug measures 24.4 meters in length with a molded beam of 11.25 meters and an overall draft of 5.87 meters. Propulsion is provided by Caterpillar 3516C main diesel engines, each developing 2,100 kilowatts at 1,600 revolutions per minute, coupled to Rolls-Royce US 255 FP type Z-drives. The main engines also power the pumps which feed the external fire-fighting system which is to ABS FiFi1 notation with twin FFS monitors located at the forward end of the bridge deck.
 
This machinery combination delivers a bollard pull of up to 70 metric tons and drives the hull when free-running at a speed of more than 13 knots. The main winch, by DMT, is mounted on the vessel’s fore deck.
 
The RAmparts 2400 SX tug, also known as the Bogacay Class, is an exclusive Sanmar design from the Robert Allan Limited team of naval architects. It is the product of the long association between builder and designer – both with particular expertise in the ASD format. Jabal Yabsa has been designed for maximum efficiency in the performance of ship-handling duties for sea going ships. The hull form and layout have evolved over several years through the extensive experience of the designers working with tug owning Clients and their crews in developing truly high-performance tugs for this challenging service. This design is based on an intended low-manning operation with a high standard of machinery automation but the accommodation can be adjusted to match almost any reasonable requirement. The layout shown has been developed to match the most commonly acceptable manning standards. Optional layouts are available as either basic “day boat” or with full accommodation for a crew of up to six persons.
