Tribon, NASSCO To Extend M2 Functions

A development agreement has been signed with the National Steel and Shipbuilding Company (NASSCO) to further extend the functionality of the Data Management application in Tribon M2. This development contract is based on the already successful implementation of the Tribon Shipbuilding system at NASSCO. Configuration Management functions Tribon Solutions will develop functions for configuration management of a series of ships. These new functions will secure the validity and integrity of the product data for the ships in a series. The T-AKE project will be the first to use the Tribon Configuration Management functions. The most important new features will be: Advanced Sister ship handling (control and awareness of changes) More efficient reuse of earlier designs Simplified co-operation between the shipyard and its subcontractors Handling of alternate designs NASSCO will use Tribon for design and production of all their naval and commercial ships over the next five years. In July this year NASSCO signed a five-year agreement to continue their use of the Tribon Shipbuilding System at the San Diego shipyard in California. NASSCO will use the Tribon system for the design and production of all of their naval and commercial ships. NASSCO implemented the Tribon Hull system in 1995 on the Sealift New Construction program for the U.S. Navy. In 1997 NASSCO implemented the entire Tribon system including all hull and outfitting applications. T-AKE Program The U.S. Navy has awarded NASSCO contracts for the design and construction of the first three ships in the T-AKE program, a new class of combat logistics force ships. The award includes options exercisable by the Navy for a total of 12 ships over the next six years, for a potential contract value of approximately 3.7-billion USD. The T-AKE 1 is a dry cargo/ammunition ship, the lead ship in the Lewis and Clark class. Functional design work on the T-AKE is underway, with construction beginning in 2003 and delivery of the first ship scheduled for 2005. Tribon M2 Data Management controls the design data The Data Management application is a solution to fully control the development, approval and release of design data in a project. The application can be used for projects both inside and outside the design department in a shipyard according to the authority rules for the specific shipyard. The Tribon Product Information Model (PIM) holds information about the ship design, and information related to the manufacturing of the ship. Tribon M2 Data Management is an embedded and adapted data management functionality fully integrated in the Tribon PIM. Tribon M2 Data Management is also used as a platform for communication with external PDM systems.
