Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has been acknowledged for its environmental efforts, picking up the top award for Greenest Ship of the Year at the International Green Shipping Awards.

Held this week as part of a summit event in Rotterdam, the awards applaud those in the maritime industry who have introduced successful sustainability practices within their core business.

MSC was shortlisted alongside UASC, Marinvest and d’Amico Shipping Group.

Chief Sustainable Development Officer Dirk Vande Velde attended the event to collect the award.

He said: “Winning this award is a great acknowledgment of the work which has been put in across the MSC business to ensure that we are operating our vessels in a more sustainable way.

“We have a very young fleet compared with many operators in the industry, and our newer vessels are fitted with G95 engines which are already compliant with industry standards which will not come in until 2025.

“MSC can feel very proud of the work it is doing in this area, and we continue to be fully committed to identifying opportunities for improvements to our vessels and our working practices.”
