Keenan Named VP at Gibbs & Cox

Gibbs & Cox, Inc., an independent naval architecture and marine engineering firm, announced the appointment of Patrick J. Keenan as Vice President, Platform Solutions Group. In this role, Keenan will have responsibility for leadership and management of the company's government and commercial ship design solutions across the Gibbs & Cox global portfolio.

"Pat brings over thirty years of world-wide experience solving the toughest problems affecting navies and commercial fleets – the problems those same organizations look to Gibbs & Cox to solve."

Prior to joining Gibbs & Cox, Inc., Pat served as Global Operations Director for Crowley/Titan Salvage, where he led operations in the recent raising of the Costa Concordia, the largest salvage job in maritime history.

Prior to joining Crowley/Titan, Keenan was a career engineering duty officer in the U.S. Navy. He developed expertise in engineering, salvage and diving operations throughout his career, including:

  • Leading the recovery of USS Cole following a terrorist attack in 2000,
  • Leading the Navy's response to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill,
  • Leading the Navy's response to the 2010 Haiti earthquake,
  • Serving as the Navy's Director of Ocean Engineering/Supervisor of Diving and Salvage,
  • Serving as Officer in Charge of U.S. Navy Ship Repair Unit Bahrain,
  • Commanding the Navy's Experimental Diving Unit, and

Serving as Director of the Naval Construction and Engineering Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Keenan holds a master of science in Materials Engineering and a Naval Engineering degree from MIT, as well as a bachelor's degree in Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania. Keenan is a registered Professional Engineer and Marine Surveyor.
