Maersk Inc. contracted KCI Konecranes for the delivery of 30 Rail Mounted Gantry Container Handling Cranes (RMG) to APM Terminals' new container terminal in Portsmouth, Va. The contract calls for deliveries to begin in October 2006, and includes the option for an additional 30 cranes. The order value was not disclosed.

APM Terminals' new Virginia container terminal project is the largest single private investment in container terminals in the United States. The new terminal is expected to set a new benchmark in the container handling industry, establishing new performance standards and methods of operation. The Konecranes RMG cranes will be used for high density container stacking and truck loading in the container yard.

"KCI Konecranes' technology, experience and reliable delivery track record is an attractive combination," said Griff Lynch, APM Terminals' Project Manager for the Virginia development. "At APM Terminals our customers demand quick turnaround times and fast deliveries, and KCI Konecranes have met our requirements on efficient project management and delivering the specified, high performance equipment.

The successful on-time startup of the new terminal is essential to us." KCI Konecranes has supplied container handling equipment to the APM Terminals' facilities on the U.S. East and Gulf Coasts since 2001. Earlier this year KCI Konecranes sold its first RTGs to the U.S. West Coast to APM Terminals in Los Angeles, CA. To date APM Terminals has taken delivery of 34 Konecranes RTGs, not including the recent order in LA for seven cranes.
