LauritzenCool Logistics Expands

Due to significant increase in trade with primary fruit receivers in the UK, LCL has formed a joint venture company with George Hammond PLC, LCL UK & Eire Ltd.

LCL supplies logistics services to exporters and producers of fresh fruit. Dover-based Hammond have a long association with the liner services operated by LauritzenCool out of South America, both as stevedore and agent, with offices established at Sheerness and Dover.

Commenting on this development, Brian Madderson – Managing Director of George Hammond PLC - said “we recognise the importance of value added services to the global perishable trade and are delighted to have this opportunity to work in partnership with LCL who are now leaders in this specialised field”.

This new company, in operation as from December 1st 2004, will be headed by Simon Korkie on secondment from LCL South Africa, supported by Jim Reet from Hammond, as well as Christiaan Visser, also from LCL South Africa.

Ole Schack-Petersen, Managing Director of LCL, states that - “our business has expanded very rapidly, such that there are now LCL offices in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Holland, Japan, Peru, South Africa, Uruguay and the USA.

With offices located in the main source countries for supplying a wide range of perishables to the exacting requirements of UK supermarkets, substantial growth is expected for this new company over the next few years.”
