St. Lawrence Seaway Welcomes New Board Members

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

December 5, 2012

The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation (SLSMC) is pleased to announce that Mr. Georges Robichon and Mr. Tim Dool have each been appointed to its Board for a three-year term.

Mr. Robichon replaced Mr. Paul Gourdeau as the international carrier representative in August, while Mr. Dool becomes the domestic carrier representative when Mr. Ian MacGregor’s term is over at the end of November.

In addition, Mr. Jonathan Bamberger was named Chair of the Board of Directors effective September 1st.  He is President of Redpath Sugar Ltd. and has been a member of the SLSMC’s Board since August 2010.

Mr. Robichon practiced law in Ottawa (Ontario) between 1975 and 1984.  He joined Montreal based Fednav Limited in 1984 as Corporate Counsel and Secretary, and progressed within the organization to serve as Senior Vice President and General Counsel.  Retiring in 2011, Mr. Robichon was appointed as Special Counsel to Fednav, and continues in his roles of Corporate Secretary and Board member.

Mr. Dool, a chartered accountant, began his career with the firm of Peat Marwick Mitchell in 1973.  In 1977, he joined Algoma Central Corporation as Comptroller of the Marine Division.  After serving in progressively more senior positions, he was appointed President and CEO in 2001, where he served for some seven years before retiring in 2008.

Terence Bowles, President and CEO of the SLSMC, welcomed the appointment of Mr. Robichon and Mr. Dool.  “I am very pleased to welcome these distinguished leaders to our board” said Mr. Bowles.  “Mr. Robichon was a member of the Seaway Users’ Group that helped bring about commercialization of the St. Lawrence Seaway in 1998, and served on the SLSMC’s Board from 1998 to 2006.  Mr. Dool is a long standing champion of marine transportation, having led one of Canada’s largest marine carriers into the 21st century.  I welcome their presence at the table, and look forward to the depth of insight that they bring to our leadership process”.

Mr. Bowles also commended Mr. Paul Gourdeau and Mr. Ian MacGregor for their contribution in guiding the SLSMC over the course of their terms on the Board.  “I wish to thank both Paul and Ian for their many hours of hard work and sound judgment” said Mr. Bowles.
