Maritime UK Appoint Jeffrey Evans Chairman

Maritime London informs that its chairman, Jeffrey Evans, has also been appointed chairman of industry lobby group Maritime UK: he is managing director of gas at Clarksons as well as an Alderman of the City of London.

Commenting on his new role, Mr Evans said: “I am delighted, honoured and excited to be taking over as Chairman of Maritime UK. In the past few years Maritime UK has grown from a fledgling coalition of maritime interests into a respected and influential industry lobby. Maritime UK has delivered a ‘strategic partnership’ with government that few other industries can boast, and we are using our new alliances across government to build the most attractive and competitive environment for maritime business anywhere in the world. London International Shipping Week, in which Maritime UK played a significant role, has provided fresh momentum in how the UK’s maritime services communicate and work with government. It is our job now to build on this new influence and deliver further tangible success for the industry."

Mr Evans also paid tribute to his predecessor, Jim Stewart: “Under Jim’s chairmanship, and thanks in no small measure to his energy and commitment, Maritime UK has gone from strength to strength. We share in our ambitions for Maritime UK, and I am deeply grateful for the leadership he has shown”.

Outgoing Chairman Jim Stewart said: “It has been a great privilege to lead Maritime UK these past three years. The UK can be proud that in this country we have access to unrivalled expertise in shipping, ports and business services, and Maritime UK has brought this expertise together to speak as one voice. Maritime UK has proven itself as a positive and effective advocate for the maritime sector, and I wish Jeffrey and the whole team all the very best as they move into this new era.”
