Sanmar Delivers LNG-powered Tug to HaiSea Marine

The first new LNG-fueled escort tug built by Sanmar Shipyards in Türkiye for HaiSea Marine has arrived in Vancouver, Canada, ahead of being transferred to LNG Canada’s new export facility in Kitimat.HaiSea Kermode is Canada’s first LNG-fueled tugboat and will soon be joined by its sister tug HaiSea Warrior to form a fleet of five with three Sanmar-built electric-powered emissions-free ElectRA harbor tugs. Sanmar Delivers Second Electric Tug for Western Canada

Turkey's Sanmar Shipyards announced it has delivered a second electric-powered tug to HaiSea Marine in Canada.The newly built HaiSea Wee’git and its sister HaiSea Wamis, delivered earlier this year, will provide harbor and escort tugboat services to tankers calling at LNG Canada’s new export facility in Kitimat, British Columbia. A third electric tug, HaiSea Brave,  is scheduled to be delivered later this year.The 28.4-meter-long tugs are based on the exclusive-to-Sanmar ElectRA 2800SX design from Vancouver-headquartered naval architects, Robert Allan Ltd.

Sanmar Shipyards Completes Record Number of Vessels in a Month

Sanmar Shipyards reports it has completed a record number of vessels within one calendar month, with six tugs and two pilot boats gaining their class certificates during January 2022.The record-breaking start to the New Year takes the total number of projects completed by Sanmar to more than 300, with 302 being completed to date.Sanmar builds tugboats at its two custom-built shipyards in Turkey. Retrofitted Pair to Be First Tier III Tugs in Italian Ports

Sanmar Shipyards said it has signed a contract to deliver two cleaner and greener versions of its Bogacay series of tugs to Sicily-based operator Rimorchiatori Augusta Srl. BOGACAY LII and BOGACY LIV have been refurbished and their propulsion systems upgraded using the latest technology to make them IMO Tier III emissions compliant. They will be delivered to Augusta Port in Sicily towards the end of 2022.The 24.4m x 12m x 5.45m sister tugs will be powered by two Caterpillar CAT 3512E C rating main engines…

Sanmar Delivers Tier lll Tug to Norwegian Operator

Sanmar has delivered its first Tier lll tugboat to Buksér og Berging AS, the first of two environmentally-friendly tugs ordered by the Norwegian operator. Built at Sanmar’s shipyard at Altinova in Turkey, the new tug has been named Bamse by its owners.Based on the TRAktor 3000-Z design from Canadian naval architects Robert Allan Ltd, the 30.45m LOA Bamse has a molded beam of 12.8m and navigational draft of 6.35m. It was delivered at the end of May and will carry out escort duties from Brevik, in Norway.

Sanmar to Build Five Tugs for LNG Canada Project

Turkish shipbuilder Sanmar Shipyards announced it has inked a deal with HaiSea Marine for the build and delivery of three liquefied natural gas (LNG)-fueled escort tugs and two battery-electric harbor tugs which will provide ship-assist and escort towing services to LNG carriers calling at LNG Canada’s new export facility in Kitimat, B.C., on Canada's west coast.Following an initial tender process which began in 2018, HaiSea Marine has awarded the contract for all five tugs to Sanmar plus an option for a sixth.

Pakistan's Port Qasim Orders Four Tugs and Two Pilot Boats

Turkey's Sanmar Shipyards said it has won contracts worth $33.46 million to supply four new tugs and two new pilot boats for the Port Qasim Authority (PQA) in Pakistan. The tugs are scheduled to be delivered in 12 months and the pilot boats in 10.The contracts were awarded following an international tendering process during which Sanmar championed its new Kocacay range of escort and harbor tugs, based on the exclusive-to-Sanmar RAstar 3200SX design from Canada-based naval architects Robert Allan Ltd.

Sanmar Adds Two New Tugs

Sanmar Shipyards has delivered another vessel in its Delicay tug series—this time to its own fleet.Like its sister tugs, the the 25.3m x 12m x 6.1m Delicay Vlll is a Z-drive tractor tug built to Canadian naval architects Robert Allan Ltd’s exclusive to Sanmar TRAktor-Z 2500SX design, created in partnership with the Turkish tug-builder and operator for both harbor ship handling and towing duties.Built at Sanmar Shipyards Altinova, the tug is powered by 2x 2100kW main engines, giving it a speed ahead of around 12 knots and 75 tonnes of bollard pull.

Italy Rewarded with Improved Tug Orders

Recent years have seen a considerable upturn in the number of orders from Italian customers for the sophisticated ASD or tractor configuration tug boats constructed by Sanmar Marine at either of its two custom-built shipyards in Turkey.As in many parts of the world, this growth in demand has been spearheaded by the enormously successful 24.4m x 11.25 Bogacay series – currently Sanmar’s ‘best seller’. It is undoubtedly appropriate that the first example of a newly configured version is also Italy bound.

Sanmar Orders 42 Rolls-Royce Thrusters

Rolls-Royce said it has secured an extensive supply order from long-time collaborator Sanmar Shipyards for propulsion and deck equipment for tugboats the Turkish shipyard is building for various customers. The scope of supply includes 42 Rolls-Royce US 205/255 azimuth thrusters for 21 harbor/terminal/escort tugs in the 60-, 70- and 80-metric-ton bollard-pull range and high-pressure hydraulic towing winched for the 80-metric-ton models. All vessels are based on new designs developed by Canadian naval architects Robert Allan Ltd., exclusively for Sanmar.

Over the last few years, as the design output from Robert Allan Ltd. to the global tugboat community began to border on the prodigious, we were often asked, “How many tugs has your company designed?” Until very recently we really did not have a good handle on that number, so the answer was usually either “a lot” or “many hundreds”, neither of which were particularly illuminating. So a search was begun late in 2016 to review our archives and try to determine the tug tally much more precisely. Would we rival Helen? Where did it all begin?

Sanmar Receives Tug Orders from Italy

Roughly one month after Turkish tug building company Sanmar laid the keels of two new Sirapinar Class tugs, the opportunity to purchase these ASDs has been snapped up by Italian operator Rimorchiatori Napoletani. Commenting on the new design, which was developed in cooperation with cooperation with Robert Allan Ltd, Ali Gurun of Sanmar said, “The industry is under the challenge of ever tighter cost control and the only way to achieve this is to have more bollard pull in more compact hulls with low operational and maintenance costs.

New Tug Delivered for Italtugs

The delivery of tug Civitavecchia to the Italian tugboat operator Italtugs for its operation at a Sicilian oil terminal represents another milestone in the tchnical cooperation between Sanmar Shipyards in Turkey and the Canadian naval architects, Robert Allan Limited. Combining Sanmar’s experience as an international tugboat operator with RAL’s design expertise has resulted in some 150 vessels being built at either of the former’s custom-built shipyards. Now, this latest delivery is the first vessel of the Ulucay Class which is based on the RAstar 3200W design.

Long and Successful Links: Sanmar Hosts Robert G Allan

Some 200 delegates from all around Turkey attended the Pilotage & Towage Services Technologies Congress in Izmir, an event supported by shipbuilder Sanmar, whose Projects Director Ali Gurun presented a paper about technical specification of modern harbor and terminal tug boats outside of Turkey and the effect of this on Turkish fleet. A keynote speaker at the Congress was Robert G Allan, Executive Chairman of Robert Allan Ltd, the designers of the majority of Sanmar's tug and workboat portfolio.

Tugboat Handed Over by Turkish Yard

Sanmar deliver the tugboat 'Ulupinar 14' to its owner, UK's SMS Towage, after a 6-month charter. Some 15 of this exclusive and versatile ASD model designed by the Robert Allan Limited team with considerable input from Ali Gurun, project director at Sanmar, have now been built. However, Ulupinar 14, although having been completed back in July 2012, has only just been handed over to its new owners, the UK’s SMS Towage with the new name of Statesman. The vessel had spent the intervening six months on a successful charter with Egyptian interests.
