Thun Tankers Adds New Tanker to Gothia

Swedish shipping company Thun Tankers has taken delivery of the third of five L-class product tankers from Chinaā€™s Avic Dingheng. Just like her sister ships, Thun Lidkoping and Thun London, the new vessel Thun Liverpool will enter the Gothia Tanker Alliance network.Thun Tankers took delivery of the 18,650-dead-weight product tanker on Wednesday (November 13).The L-class series have been designed and developed in-house, using the Erik Thun groupā€™s long experience of building sustainable, high quality vessels.Focus on environmental care, new regulations and customersā€™ needs has been key in the design and building process of this vessel type.The new tanker will enter into the Gothia Tanker Alliance network with crewing and technical management done by MF Shipping Group.

Terntank Orders 2 Hybrid Tankers in China

Swedish shipping company Terntank has placed orders for two hybrid tankers, which  run on liquefied biogas (LBG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG),  at Chinaā€™s AVIC Dingheng Shipbuilding with an option for two more vessels.The 15,000 dwt new-builds with hybrid battery system and on-shore power are designed by Kongsberg (ex Rolls-Royce) and they will be in operation in the Baltic Sea and the North Sea in 2021.The close cooperation with the customers and with the crew at shore and onboard, has made it possible to further develop the environmentally friendly supply chains and to take the next steps towards carbon-neutral shipping. Ramelia Begins Maiden Voyage

The LNG tanker Ramelia has been delivered to the chemical tankers in Northern Europe Rederi AB Älvtank, becoming the sixth of eight vessels ordered in the Gothia Tanker Alliance series.The vessels are built on a design where FKAB Marine design, in great cooperation with the owners Furetank, Älvtank and Thun Tankers and together with Avic Dingheng Shipbuilding Co. Ltd., have been involved from the first sketch all the way to Detail Design.This design is an ice class 1A environmental friendly tanker, equipped with batteries and dual fuel engines for LNG operation.It is of 16,300 DWT on design draught & 18,000 DWT on scantling draught.The picture taken from monkey island by FKABā€¦

Mostraum Delivered to Utkilen

Bergen-headquartered shipping company Utkilen said it has taken delivery of Mostraum, the LNG-ready 10,500 DWT chemical tanker.The vessel is stainless steel tanker and is a very environmentally friendly design with focus on low fuel consumption, reduced NOx emissions and to prepare her for possible future upgrades of fuel with the installed LNG ready engine, claimed a press release.Shore power is installed with a capacity enough to handle loading and unloading. The high loading and unloading pump capacity in combination with great tank cleaning efficiency will reduce time in port.The vessel is prepared for a battery pack installationā€¦

2nd L-Class Tanker Delivered to Thun Tankers

Swedish shipping company Thun Tankers took delivery of the second L-class tanker, Thun London, on July 2 in China.The tanker will enter the Gothia Tanker Alliance network, just like its sister ship, Thun Lidkoping, a press release from the coastal shipping company.Thun Tankers took delivery of the 18,650 dead-weight product tanker ā€œThun Londonā€. GTA Names Sixth LNG-Fueled Tanker

Marine engineering company FKAB said that the sixth vessel ordered by the Gothia Tanker Alliance (GTA), a network of established tanker operators,  has been named at the Avic Dingheng shipyard.The 'Ramelia' is the sixth in a series of vessels ordered for the Gothia Tanker Alliance series.The Ramelia, which is owned by Rederi AB Älvtank, is an ice class 1A environmental friendly tanker, equipped with batteries and dual-fuel engines for LNG operation.It is of 16,300 DWT on design draught & 18,000 DWT on scantling draught, said a press release.This vessel concept is named FKAB T24C1 and was developed by FKAB together with the owner Furetank.Through our FKAB offices in Sweden & Chinaā€¦

Thun Tankers Takes Delivery of Two Vessels

The Swedish tanker operator Thun Tankers takes delivery of first L-Class and second E-Class on the same day. Both vessels will enter the Gothia Tanker Alliance network.On May 9th, Thun Tankers took delivery of the 18,650 deadweight product tanker ā€œThun Lidkopingā€. This L-Class vessel is the first in a series of five resource efficient, high quality tankers built by Avic Dingheng Shipbuilding Ltd in China.On the same day, the 8,000 deadweight ā€œThun Evolveā€ was delivered to Thun Tankers by Ferus Smit BV in the Netherlands. The dual fuelled vessel, that will use natural gas or biogas as fuel, is the second in a series of four ordered E-Class tankers.

Furetank Orders Dual Fuel Product Tanker

Sweden's Furetank Rederi AB has signed a contract for one 17,999 dwt dual fuel product tanker at Avic Dingheng Shipbuilding.The agreement with the yard includes an option for one further vessel, said a press release from the provider of marine transportation services through product and chemical tankers.The new vessel will be identical with the series of six sister vessels built by Avic Dingheng Shipbuilding for Furetank Rederi AB, Rederi AB Älvtank and Erik Thun AB during 2018ā€2019.All vessels are designed with special focus on minimal impact on the environment and has dual fuel capability, run on LNG and has several features that reduce fuel and energy consumption resulting in extensively lower emissions of CO2ā€¦

Avic Dingheng Shipyard Delivers LNG Vessel to Sirius Shipping

Swedish shipping company Sirius Shipping Sirius Shipping has taken delivery of its first 7999-dwt LNG-ready oil/chemical tanker Saturnus from the Avic  Dingheng Shipyard  in China.The Backman family- founded company said in a press release that the work to develop the Evolution concept started six years ago with the purpose to develop a vessel design where the entire underwater body, hull, rudder and propeller would be designed and chosen to obtain the best possible hydrodynamic shipdesign.In combination with a slow speed two stroke diesel engine the Evolution vessels will be considerably more fuel efficient than any other delivered tanker this sizeā€¦

Gothia Tanker Alliance Delivers Fure Valö

Europe's leading network for smaller and intermediate size tankers Gothia Tanker Alliance announced the delivery of the fourth vessel LNG-fueled vessel  Fure Valö.The vessel was named on the 17th of November and delivered to owners Furetank on November 27, the company tweeted. Fure Valö has been delivered at the Chinese Avic Dingheng shipyard.Fure Valö is vessel number four in a the serie of six climate smart, high quality new buildings that will join the Gothia Tanker Alliance.It is a part of the six-vessel series ordered by the Gothia Tanker Alliance members Furetank, Älvtank and Erik Thun, Gothia Tanker Alliance said.Furetank Rederi AB, Rederi AB Älvtank and Thun Tankers BV are building six intermediate size tankers at Avic Dingheng Shipbuilding Ltd.

Furetank Fleet Adds LNG-fuelled Fure Vinga

Swedish shipping company Furetank Rederi AB, a part of the Gothia Tanker Alliance, has taken delivery of its latest vessel, Fure Vinga, the first in a series of six 17.999 DWT product tankers with LNG operation. "We welcome Fure Vinga to our alliance! We wish the ship and her crew fair winds and good fortune!," said Gothia Tanker Alliance in a Twitter message. The vessel has been transferred to Furetank following successful sea trials and started its trip from the shipyard of Avic Dingheng Shipbuilding in China, sailing to Europe. Featuring a length of 149.9 meters and a beam of 22.8 meters, the newbuilding was delivered by Chinaā€™s shipbuilder Avic Dingheng Shipbuilding. The tanker will be commercially managed by Furetank Chartering in the Gothia Tanker Alliance.

Thun Tankers Orders another Newbuild

Thun Tankers said it has declared an option for a fifth tanker to be added to the previously contracted four 17,500 dwt IMO II product/chemical tankers on order at Avic Dingheng Shipbuilding Ltd in China. The sister ships are due for delivery between April 2019 and January 2020 and will be commercially managed by Furetank, responsible for the intermediate segment within the Gothia Tanker Alliance. Odfjell Acquires Five Chemical Tankers

Odfjell SE informs it has signed a final agreement to acquire five chemical tanker newbuilds from Chemical Transportation Group, Inc (CTG) and form a pool of 15 chemical tankers. The transaction has been signed and completed, Odfjell said, after it announced on June 16 that it inked a term sheet with CTG to form the vessel pool and acquire CTGā€™s final five 25,000 dwt stainless steel newbuilds on order from Chinese shipyard AVIC Dingheng. Odfjell said it will pay $40 million per vessel upon delivery from shipyard.

Odfjell Buys 5 Chemical Tanker Newbuilds

Odfjell SE informs it has signed a term sheet with Chemical Transportation Group, Inc (CTG) whereby Odfjell will acquire the last five of a total newbuilding order of 10 25,000 dwt vessels with 24 stainless steel tanks from Chinese ship builder AVIC Dingheng. CTG will continue to own five vessels which will be placed in a pool commercially managed by Odfjell Tankers AS. The vessels will, together with Odfjell's current fleet of five 25,000 dwt vessels and the five vessels acquired by Odfjell, form a pool for 15 25,000 dwt chemical tankers. The vessels acquired by Odfjell will be bought at $40 million per vessel upon delivery from yard, and are scheduled for delivery from June 2017 through May 2018.

Great Ships of 2016: Ternsund

Since it started publishing in 1939, Maritime Reporter & Engineering News has recognized excellence in ship construction. The Switch has been engaged in the maritime industry for only three and a half years, but it already has approximately 20 ships in its reference list, including the first, the 15,000 dwt M/T Ternsund  (featured on this monthā€™s cover) owned by Terntank, which is a fourth generation company that in 1958 was a one ship company, and today is an operator of ten modern chemical/product tankers in the range from 8,000 to 15,000 dwt.

Furetank and Älvtank Extend LNG Tanker Order

Furetank and Älvtank extend the order with two more of next generation Intermediate Product/Chemical Tankers with LNG propulsion. Furetank Rederi AB and Rederi AB Älvtank have added the previous order with two more newbuildings. Last year a contract signed by the constellation Furetank, Älvtank and Thun Tankers to let build four chemical/product tanker in the intermediate segment of the Chinese shipyard Avic Dingheng Shipbuilding. The vessels will be built with special focus on minimal impact on the environment, with close to 50 percent reduction of CO2 emissions.

Sirius Orders Two Oil/Chemical Tankers

Sirius Shipping AB has ordered two oil/chemical tankers with the latest technology and in compliance with future rules and regulations, such as Tier III, at Avic Dingheng shipyard. This is the 5th project that FKAB signes in less than a year, on a tanker project.The design is developed in cooperation between FKAB and Sirius and it started already in 2012, under the name ā€œEVOlution.ā€ The design with a gas-ready two-stroke engine, is based on proven hull lines, to reduce the fuel consumption to be one of the most efficient vessel in its segment.

BV & Ship-to-Ship LNG Bunkering

Bureau Veritas is supporting the adoption of clean fuel LNG through the classification of both vessels in the worldā€™s first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering operation between two independent ocean-going vessels. On September 3 2016, Terntank Rederiā€™s M/T Ternsund bunkered LNG from Coral Energy, a Dutch small scale LNG vessel owned by Antony Veder and chartered by Skangas. The operation was carried out at the entrance to the port of Gothenburg. The 15,000 dwt Ternsund is the worldā€™s first LNG-fuelled newbuilding oil/chemical tanker. It was built under BV class at Avic Dingheng, China and delivered to Terntank at the end of June 2016. Coral Energy, which has a capacity of 15,600 m3, is also built to BV class and was delivered in 2013.

Wartsila Wins Deal for Four LNG Tankers

Wärtsilä has been awarded a contract covering four newbuild tanker vessels. The ships are to be built at the Avic Dingheng shipyard in China, on behalf of three Swedish owners; Furetank (two vessels), Älvtank, and Thun Tankers, a fully owned subsidiary of Thunbolagen. The vessels will be commercially managed by Furetank Chartering in the Gothia Tanker Alliance. The contracts were signed in the second quarter of 2016. The ships will fulfil the IMO's Tier III requirements and will be fuelled primarily by liquefied natural gas (LNG). The scope of Wärtsilä's supply to this project is extensive. For each vessel it comprises a 9-cylinder Wärtsilä 34DF dual-fuel main engineā€¦

BV Classes First LNG-fuel Oil/Chemical Tanker

Leading international classification society Bureau Veritas has classed the first LNG-fuelled newbuilding oil/chemical tanker, the 15,000 dwt Ternsund, built under BV class at Avic Dingheng, China and delivered to Denmarkā€™s Terntank Rederi at the end of June 2016. The new vessel is the result of close co-operation between Terntank, Avic and Bureau Veritas. The Ternsund is the first of a series of four ships all equipped with the Wärtsilä RT-flex50-D dual-fuel low-speed engine. This is the first installation of such engine and it was done under BV class. In early August the vessel became the first ever ship to take on LNG as bunker fuel in the port of Rotterdam, qualifying for an LNG bunkering premium equal to a ten per cent reduction in port dues.

The 5-cylinder, 500 mm bore, Wärtsilä RT-flex50DF engine employing X-DF technology is installed as the main engine driving a single propeller in the Ternsund, a low emissions 15,000 DWT chemical tanker. Ternsund was undertaken by AVIC International Ship Development (China) Co., Ltd. (AVIC SHIP), Shanghai, China and completed by AVIC Dingheng Shipbuilding Co.
