Bellingham, Wash. shipbuilder All American Marine (AAM) announced it has delivered a new research and hydrographic survey vessel for NV5-Geodynamics. The vessel was sea-trialed on Bellingham Bay, prior to shipping via cargo ship to its homeport of Beaufort, N.C.Built to service the growing offshore wind market as well as accomplish many other scientific survey missions, Shackleford is a 73- by 26.7-foot semi-displacement aluminum catamaran developed by Nic de Waal of Teknicraft Design in Auckland, New Zealand.

Washington-baed shipbuilder All American Marine (AAM) has won a contract to build a research vessel for the NOAA Gray’s Reef National Marine Sanctuary (GRNMS). GRNMS is located 19 miles off Sapelo Island, Georgia, and is one of 14 marine sanctuaries and monuments that make up the U.S. National Marine Sanctuary System. AAM will build the research vessel at its Bellingham Bay facility. The vessel is a 52’ x 19’ semi-displacement aluminum catamaran hull that was developed by Nic de Waal of Teknicraft Design in Auckland, New Zealand.

All American Marine (AAM) on Tuesday revealed it has been awarded a contract to build a research vessel for the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and the University of Hawaiʻi Foundation (UHF), on the behalf of the Hawai’i Institute of Marine Biology (HIMB). This research vessel, with construction already underway in AAM’s facility on Bellingham Bay, is a 68.5’ x 25’ semi-displacement aluminum catamaran hull that was developed by Nic de Waal of Teknicraft Design in Auckland, New Zealand.

All American Marine, Inc. (AAM), inked a deal for the construction of a new hybrid electric passenger vessel to be delivered to the Red and White Fleet of San Francisco, California. The contract for the new 600 passenger aluminum monohull was signed during the recent annual Maritrends Conference put on by the Passenger Vessel Association. AAM’s latest contract follows an earlier announcement made by the company regarding a construction agreement for a 500 passenger aluminum monohull tour boat for Argosy Cruises of Seattle, WA.

The Coast Guard rescued one mariner aboard a disabled vessel after he become disoriented in Bellingham Bay, Saturday. Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound command center received a report from Station Bellingham of the disabled and adrift 27-foot crab in the shoals of Bellingham Bay with one person aboard at 3:05 p.m. The mariner was unable to give his exact position but was quickly located after Sector personnel tracked his location using his cell phone GPS signal. A Coast Guard Station Bellingham rescue boat crew aboard a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium responded to the incident and safely removed the mariner from his vessel at 4:13 p.m. The mariner was reported to be in good condition and did not seek medical attention.

U.S. Moose Boats, a boat designer and manufacturer in the San Francisco Bay Area, announced two recent vessel deliveries: a M2-35 Catamaran Patrol Boat to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office in Carnelian Bay, Calif., and a M2-38’ 3,000GPM Fire Rescue Catamaran to the Bellingham Fire Department in Bellingham, Wash. The builder has received an additional order to build a M2-38 Catamaran CBRNE Emergency Response and Recovery Vessel for the New Bedford Fire Department in Massachusetts.

CEO, Matthew Mullett, acquires complete control of All American Marine from founder partner Pat Pitsch. Mullett joined AAM as CEO in 1999 and has served as the managing partner of the shipyard since he became co-owner in 2003. Under Mullett’s leadership, the small boat builder has grown to become an award-winning and internationally known entity. All American Marine, Inc. is pleased to announce their latest vessel contract awarded by the Port of Los Angeles Harbor Department for a new dive and patrol catamaran. The 65’ x 24’ aluminum catamaran will be used by the LA Port Police dive team and will feature Teknicraft Design’s signature hull shape and hydrofoil technology. The design of the vessel is based upon the previously built R/V Shearwater and R/V Fulmar, which are operated by NOAA throughout California’s four National Marine Sanctuaries.

All American Marine, Inc. completed a 65 x 23.5-ft. Teknicraft catamaran for Star of Honolulu Cruises & Events (formerly Paradise Cruise, Ltd.) based in Honolulu, Hawaii. The new Hoku Nai’a is a USCG subchapter T classified vessel and is certified to carry 150 passengers and 10 crew members. Upon successfully completing acceptance trials in Bellingham Bay in mid-July, the Hoku Nai’a and her crew set off on a 3,000 mile delivery cruise to the island of Oahu. The Hoku Nai’a, meaning Dolphin Star, will primarily be used for a newly created Wild Dolphin Watch cruise that departs twice daily from Waianae Boat Harbor on the south shore of Oahu. Hoku Nai’a is powered by a pair of Scania DI12 60M electronic, high efficiency, low-emission diesel engines that deliver 500 bhp at 2100 rpm.

Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) honored its best and brightest at a ceremony held in early November. The college formally recognized alumni success and achievement, student academic success, and faculty achievement at its annual Celebration of Achievement on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006. Included among those recognized were three outstanding college alumni. All were inducted into the college’s Wall of Honor. Initiated in 1997, the college’s Wall of Honor was created to recognize alumni, who, through achievements in professional and civic life, have brought honor to themselves and to Maine Maritime Academy. Inductees are selected from nominations made at large by alumni and the public.

When trawler Cape Horn left Bellingham Bay Shipyard in Washington for the January 20, 1999 trawl opening in the Bering Sea fishing grounds, she carried nearly 400 gallons of fresh paint on the outside and a pair of new Cummins KTA38 main engines inside her hull. Replacing a pair of 900-hp, 16-cylinder two-cycle engines, the new 12-cylinder engines are rated at 1,000 hp. While these particular engines can deliver 1,200 hp, the owners, a Danish consortium, were able to keep the original Twin Disc 540 gears with their 7:1 ratio by having the engines derated.
