Alfa Laval signed an agreement to acquire marine tank cleaning equipment supplier Scanjet.Scanjet has expanded from fixed and portable tank cleaning equipment into intelligent tank management, and its solutions and organization will become part of Alfa Laval per an agreement signed on 16 June 2022.“Scanjet is a tank cleaning innovator with exciting developments in the pipeline,” says Alfa Laval’s Peter Nielsen, President of Marine Separation & Heat Transfer, whose business unit will receive the acquisition.

Damen Delivers Two Multi Cats to Brabo in Antwerp

Antwerp-based Brabo Group has held a naming ceremony for a Multi Cat 1506 and a Multi Cat 1908 delivered by Damen Shipyards Group. The group’s cleaning division, Brabo Cleaning Company, has secured a contract with Port of Antwerp to maintain a pollution-free environment in the harbor.The naming ceremony took place at Brabo’s headquarters in Antwerp on October 21. The vessels were sponsored by Annick de Ridder and Yasmine Janssen.After securing the contract, Brabo required the vessels quickly.

Wärtsilä Tallies $197 Mln Scrubber Deal

A major European container shipping company has ordered Wärtsilä’s hybrid exhaust gas cleaning equipment and retrofit services to its container vessels, worth EUR 170 million ($197 million).Wärtsilä Services will deliver 50 MW, 60 MW and 70 MW Wärtsilä hybrid scrubber systems which will be retrofitted to its container vessels. These are solutions which have the flexibility to operate in both open and closed loop. When operating in open loop mode, it uses seawater and in closed loop mode seawater with an additional reagent to remove SOx from the exhaust

WSS Rolls Out New Cargo Hold Cleaning Equipment

Wilhelmsen Ships Service (WSS) will launch its new line of cargo hold cleaning equipment at maritime exhibition INMEX India. The new high pressure lance and add-on heating system are tailor made for cleaning difficult to reach areas of the hold, enabling crews to get the right cleaning results, irrespective of where stains are located, without scaffolding, ladders and specialist-cleaning crews. Dubbed Anaconda, because of its impressive size and power, the high pressure lance measures over 20 meters and the attached hose 25 meters.

Refurbishment Program for Viking Cruises

River cruise operator Viking Cruises is taking full advantage of an annual deck maintenance program offered by the Dutch company Bolidt Synthetic Products & Systems. A total of 32 vessels – more than half of the Viking Cruises fleet – will have their decking cleaned and renewed at various European ports this winter, with 18 vessels being refurbished in Cologne. Nine more will be refurbished in Vienna, while the remaining five river cruisers will have work carried out in the French ports of Bordeaux and Rouen, or Mainz and Duisburg in Germany, depending on their cruising itineraries.

Clean Ships: Knowledge is the Key

In the wake of new regulations, Wilhelmsen Ships Services (WSS) says bulk owners and operators must pay as much attention to the products used to clean their cargo holds as the holds themselves. WSS is urging firms to heed details included in the revised MARPOL Annex V Resolution MEPC.201(62), relating to the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, which came into force on January 1, 2016. A key element is the Annex ‘garbage regulation’, stipulating that discharge of garbage into the sea is prohibited

Information on USCG BWM Regulation

The United States Coast Guard (USCG) has issued the rule with regard to obligation of installation of ballast water management system for the vessels engaged in U.S. waters. The rule is entitled as "Standards for Living Organisms in Ship's Ballast Water Discharged in U.S. Waters", Vol.77, Federal Register Reg.17254, on 23 March 2012 (Please refer to our Technical information TEC No.0903). New vessels (those constructed on or after December 1, 2013) must install by the "first scheduled drydocking" after 1 January 2014 or 1 January 2016 as applicable. To Scrub, or Not to Scrub -That Is the Question

On January 1, 2015, the IMO Annex VI, ECA zone requirements came into effect. Ship owners and operators are now faced with having to decide between switching to a lower sulfur fuel or embracing alternate solutions such as exhaust gas cleaning systems (Scrubbers) and LNG. Worldwide, about 300 scrubbing systems have already been sold to date for marine applications. Port of Kiel Posts Positive Results for 2014

The Port of Kiel can post positive results for 2014. Both cargo handling and passenger totals continued to rise. The port turned over 6.43 million tons of cargo, 1.6 % more than in the previous year. Stena Line’s Kiel-Gothenburg route recorded the biggest increase in general cargo handling while Color Line’s Kiel-Oslo service posted the strongest growth in passenger transport. During the year a total of 1.98 million passengers started or ended a ferry or cruise ship journey in Kiel - an increase of 1.9 %. Launching its most northerly Service Point in Tromsø, Norway, ABB Turbocharging reduces customer overhaul turn-around time from as much as one week down to a day. The launch of this Service Point on December 11, 2014 has allowed ABB Turbocharging to further meet customer requirements as it significantly decreases the turn-around time for Original ABB Turbocharging Service in this area, saving time for customers by as much as four days. Hoover Container Solutions (Hoover), a subsidiary of Hoover Group, Inc., has announced the grand opening of its new distribution and service center in Scott, La. The opening of this facility will provide an increased ease of operation for Hoover products and services to the Gulf of Mexico and the southeastern United States.
