The Netherlands-based Damen Shipyards Group is one of the industry’s largest and most recognized shipbuilders, perhaps best known for its standardized, serial production workboats. Now with several dozen newbuild and repair yards on the map, the company has produced more than 6,000 vessels over its 90-year history—from harbor tugs and offshore supply ships, to ferries and patrol craft. But Damen does not have a shipyard in the United States, and therefore doesn’t directly build vessels for the Jones Act market. Instead, it licenses its designs to U.S.

Conrad Shipyard said it has delivered the first of four ABS-classed spud barges to McDonough Marine Service, headquartered in Metairie, La.The identical spud barges each measure 180’ by 54’ by 12.5’, have deck strength of 2,500 pounds PSF, and four spud wells. The remaining barges are on schedule for delivery in the third and fourth quarters of 2021. Conrad Shipyard won a contract to build a Crane Barge for the United States Army Corps of Engineers. The 300 x 68-ft welded steel barge is to be used in floating crane service by the Corps’ Rock Island District in support of its maintenance mission on the inland navigation system. The barge is designed with a deckhouse and crew support area, generator room, shop area, office and heads. Below deck will enclose machinery spaces, storage areas and tankage. Conrad Shipyards announced today the delivery od a 200’ x 100’ x 19’10” ABS-classed ocean deck barge to Gray Offshore. The barge, Julius, is the first project delivered from Conrad Shipyard’s newest facility, Deepwater South, in Amelia, La. John Gray, president of Gray Offshore and its affiliated Gray Barge Companies, who provides a fleet of over 90 inland, spud, waste, rock and deck barges for charter, said, “This addition to our fleet, with its 6,000 lbs/ft, heavy-duty deck configuration and radial “spoon bow offers customers optimal solutions for their heavy lift needs.

Conrad Shipyard, L.L.C. has received the 2012 Award for Excellence in Safety as well as the Award for improvement in Safety by the Shipbuilders Council of America (SCA). Conrad was one of only five member organizations to receive both awards. This is the tenth time in the past eleven years that Conrad has received the Award for Excellence. The companies were honored with two significant awards at the recent International Workboat Show (IWS) in New Orleans. Together Crowley Maritime Corp. and subsidiary Jensen Maritime , the company’s Seattle-based naval architecture and marine engineering firm, were honored with two of the top 10 Significant Boat awards during the seventh-annual International Workboat Show 2012. The first award was for the design of two Crowley-owned ocean class tugboats , the Ocean Wind and Ocean Wave. The second was for Jensen-designed Murden, a hopper dredge vessel developed for the U.S.

Harley Marine Services orders 4 new Sister-class petroleum barges from Conrad Shipyards of Morgan City, Lousiana. Each double-hulled unit has a carrying capacity of 30,000 barrels and measures 297 feet in length. Once completed the barges will enter the Harley Marine Gulf fleet and service customers in the United States Gulf Region. The barges were designed by Conrad Industries with input from Harley Marine’s management team to ensure internal and regulatory performance requirements were not only met but exceeded. Each barge will be built with the most technically and environmentally advanced equipment available to meet the specific needs of Harley Marine’s customers and expanding business markets. Each barge has a molded beam of 54 feet and a molded depth of 12 feet.

Research Winches for R/V Maria S. Seven special winches were supplied by Hatlapa in December 2003 after being tested and demonstrated in the factory. These winches are intended for the new research vessel Maria S. Merian, which will support the vessel Polarstern during operations in the Arctic. Hatlapa has escorted this project for five years, during which time the design of the winches was formed in close cooperation with the order principal BAW (Bundesanstalt für Wasserbau) and the shipyard Krögerwerft in Rendsburg. One specialty is the combination of friction and storage winch for handling the very long and relatively thin measuring cables. The advantage is that the sensitive and expensive research ropes can be spooled on the storage winch free from load.

Danos & Curole, Inc., of Larose, La., has recently taken delivery of the second of two state-of-the-art liftboats. The 200 class Luke David was delivered by Conrad Shipyards, and christened by Luke David, the grandson of CEO Al Danos. The vessel is fully electric, with open deck space totaling 7,000 sq. ft. The liftboat is outfitted with a 100-ton primary crane and a Z-drive propulsion system. Deck load capacity on Luke David is rated at 1.1 million lbs., making it the most versatile liftboat in the Gulf of Mexico, according to the company.
