Damen Delivers Dredging Component Packages for TSHD Constructions
Damen Shipyards Group has announced the successful delivery of four advanced dredging component packages for Trailing Suction Hopper Dredgers (TSHDs). These vessels, which are being constructed at different shipyards in Central America, where two of them have already successfully undergone various dredge trials and have been accepted by the customer, while the remaining two are expected to be finished in 2026. The TSHDs are equipped with a dredge package designed and manufactured by Damen.
Damen Delivers Newbuild Dredger to Indonesian Customer
Dutch shipbuilder Damen has delivered the first-of-its-series Cutter Suction Dredger (CSD) 600 to an Indonesian customer, PT. Damen Delivers Cutter Suction Dredgers to Mexico
Three new cutter suction dredgers (CSD) built in the Netherlands by Damen Dredging Equipment (DDE) were commissioned in the harbor of Veracruz, Mexico, for SEMAR.The three CSD250s are not the first Damen dredgers to be operated by SEMAR. Over the past few years, Damen has delivered a number of CSD500s, a CSD450 and a CSD650. Merco Vial Orders Cutter Suction Dredger from Damen
Argentinian contractor Merco Vial S.A. has ordered a Damen CSD650 cutter suction dredger. Damen Launches Dredger for Hanson
On September 11, Damen Shipyards Group launched a Marine Aggregate Dredger (MAD) 3500 at its Galati yard in Romania. Damen is building the MAD for UK-based Hanson, who will use the vessel to conduct offshore aggregate extraction in water depths up to -55 metres in the North Sea and English Channel.Following the launch, Damen will complete work on the vessel, to be named Hanson Thames, and afterwards undertake commissioning, including of dredge equipment and screening installationā¦
Damenās Delivers Customized CSD to Brazil
Damen has just shipped a fully customized Cutter Suction Dredger (CSD) 350, to Brazil. The standard dredger was adapted to meet Brazilian Naval requirements and received additional options as per customer request. Damen has carried out the job very quickly; from contract signature to departure from the Port of Antwerp in just under four months.The CSD350 is the first stationary dredger Damen has delivered to Brazil. Many countries ā Brazil not being an exception ā have their own regulations for outfitting vessels. Therefore the standard suction dredger from stock has been adapted accordingly.
Keel-laying Ceremony for Hansonās MAD
On October 3, 2019, Damen Shipyards Galati hosted a celebration marking the keel-laying of a Damen Marine Aggregate Dredger (MAD) 3500 for Hanson UK. The event was well attended by representatives of both Damen Shipyards Group and Hanson UK.The keel of the new MAD 3500 was laid at the Romanian yard a few days prior to the celebration, on September 20th. At this event, tradition was observed with the inclusion of four coins in the keel ā a Romanian lei, a British pound, a Dutch guilder and a euro.The MAD is a new design from Damen that can dredge material at depths of up to -55 meters.
Damen Goes 'Solar' at Dutch Shipyards
As part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability, Damen Shipyards Group is having solar panels installed at a number of its Dutch yards. Hanson Orders Advanced Aggregate Dredger
Damen Shipyards Group and UK-based Hanson Aggregates Marine have signed a contract for the construction of a Marine Aggregate Dredger (MAD) 3500 vessel. Damenās shipyard in GalaÅ£i, Romania is selected to build the innovative new vessel, which is scheduled for delivery in early 2021. The ship will be used to extract aggregates offshore up to depths of 55 metres, for use in the onshore construction industry.The dredge equipment and screening installation will be constructed by Damen Dredging Equipment (DDE) in Nijkerk, The Netherlands, said a press release.Hanson UK is a leading supplier of heavy building materials to the construction industry, and produces aggregates (crushed rock, sand and gravel), ready-mixed concrete, asphalt, cement and cement-related materials.
Damen Delivers CSD500-S to ERA
Dutch shipbuilding conglomerate Damen Group announced that Damen Dredging Equipment has delivered CSD500-S, a fully customised cutter dredger for acidic environment, to Australian customer, Energy Resources of Australia (ERA)."The Cutter Suction Dredger (CSD), which has been named the Brolga I, will work in an acidic environment with a pH of approximately 3 for which a wide array of adaptations have been incorporated," it said in a press release.The dredger has been shipped to Antwerp, where it was loaded on board a transport vessel bound for the north of Australia. CEMEX Dredge Pump e-Motor Passes Test
The Marine Aggregate Dredger CEMEX Go Innovation, currently under construction for CEMEX Marine UK, is fitted out with a submersed dredge pump. This dredge pump is directly driven by an electric motor ā and not an arbitrary one.As a first, the dredge pump drive is a permanent magnet 1,400 kW unit, that last week it underwent a large array of tests ā passing them all effortlessly.The hopper dredger is designed for mining marine aggregates at -55 m below sea level. The submersed Damen dredge pump is directly driven by a continuous electric motor ā that is, without a gear box in between.Moreover, the electric motor forms an integral part of the trailing pipe structure. But the story does not end there: the air filled e-motor is of the Permanent Magnet type.
Shipbuilding: Damen TSHD for Portuguese Dredging Company
Recently the Jose Duarte started its first mining job in Lisbon. The trailing suction hopper dredger has been built in Portugal for a Portuguese dredging company, to a Spanish design and using Dutch dredging equipment. The European cooperation has resulted in a customized dredger performing above expectations on her first job.Portugal has a long coastline and a number of busy navigable rivers ā an excellent backdrop for the dredging company Inersel. When Inersel required an addition to its fleet, its preference was to acquire it within its home country.

New DOP Dredger Series from Damen
Damen Dredging Equipment has launched a new DOP Dredger Series following the success of the DOP submersible dredge pump, which has proved its versatility across the globe. Damen has built more than 20 DOP dredgers on a one-off basis and at least 380 DOP pumps. The DOP submersible dredge pump has been such a great success over the last 25 years because of its simple concept, which is based on a well-proven dredge pump, directly driven by a hydraulic or electric motor, assembled in a rigid housing with the ability to attach all kinds of specialised suction devices, such as mining heads or cutter units. Moreover, the DOP can easily be connected to excavators, cranes, etc.
Damen to Deliver Dredger in South Africa
Dredging Africa (Pty) Ltd has signed a contract with Damen Shipyards Cape Town (DSCT) for the delivery of a Cutter Suction Dredger (CSD) 250. Due to Damenās policy of series building standardized vessels, the CSD was in stock and available for fast delivery in March 2018. This will be the first Damen CSD to operate in South Africa. The contract for the CSD came about after Dredging Africa signed a memorandum of understanding with DSCT at the yardās first African Dredging Seminar, held in October last year.

Damen Launches Free Dredge Calculator
Dredge projects are tendered around the globe on a daily basis. Consequently, dredging contractors have to make new calculations, involving various production parameters, when preparing project quotations. Damen has introduced an online dredge job calculator to unburden contractors of this time-consuming, and therefore costly, tasks. For every dredging job, whether it is a maintenance dredging, sand dredging or capital dredging project, the local government concerned will present a public tender.
Cutter Suction Dredger Delivered to Heuvelman Ibis
A Damen Cutter Suction Dredger (CSD) 350 has been delivered from Damen Dredging Equipment in Nijkerk, the Netherlands, to start work on a canal dredging assignment in the province of Groningen, in the north of the country. In order to execute the project, which involves the extraction of approximately 220,000m³ of sediment from the Winschoterdiep canal, the Netherlands-based marine contractor Heuvelman Ibis required a heavy-duty dredger at short notice. Two Damen BS 350 booster stations to enable pumping over long distances were also included in the order, placed in January.

Fire-fighting ASD Tugs Sail to Argentina
At the end of June, two Damen ASD Tugs 2810 set sail from Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania to Puerto General de San Martin (Argentina) for towing, mooring, and fire-fighting operations in the Argentinian region around Rosario on the Paraná river. Built at Damen Galati Shipyards (Romania), the vessels will be delivered on time, having met the expectations of Cooperativa De Trabajos Portuarios Limitada de San Martín. Damen Delivers Floating Pump Station to Hamburg
Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) has taken delivery of the Sauger III, a custom floating pump station by Damen Shipyards Group for supporting dredging operations. Situated 110 km inland on the River Elbe and with a tidal range of 3.6 meters, the Hamburg Port requires regularly dredging like most ports. 37 metres in length and 10 meters wide, the station features a powerful, dual pump installation and comfortable accommodation for the crew. The Sauger III was built to a completely new design following a European tender process that began with ten yards and was finally won by Damen.
Dredging Components Delivered for Special Mining Vehicles
Damen Dredging Equipment is well known for its deliveries of standard dredging components. Usually, deliveries of items such as dredge pumps and dredge valves are for hopper dredgers or cutter suction dredgers. Recent deliveries were for a more exotic use: the Damen dredge pumps and valves have been fitted in remote operated deep sea mining vehicles. These deep sea mining vehicles, also called Seafloor Production Tools (SPTs), have been manufactured by Soil Machine Dynamics (SMD). This UK-based company designed and built three SPTs, each for a specific task.
