DMO Orders Damen Expeditionary Survey Boat
Damen Shipyards Den Helder (DSDH) and the Netherlands’ Defense Material Organization (DMO) procurement agency have signed a contract for the design, build and delivery of a prototype Expeditionary Survey Boat (ESB).The craft will be optimized for rapid environmental assessments and hydrographic surveys in harbors, river mouths, shallow waters, coastal areas and shipping channels.The craft will be manned by four persons; two to crew the boat and two technicians to operate the hydrographic equipment, and will be able to spend up over 60 hours continuously at sea at her survey speed of 5 knots.
Damen Tugs Delivered to Dutch Navy
In an official handover ceremony at the Den Helder Naval Base, the Royal Netherlands Navy took formal delivery of three Damen ASD 2810 Hybrid tugs. In addition to providing an increase in ship handling capacity, the new vessels are also installed with hybrid propulsion systems. This will contribute to Dutch Ministry of Defence ambitions regarding sustainable operations of the Navy. The acquisition of the three Damen tugs is part of the Royal Netherlands Navy’s ongoing fleet renewal programme. The hybrid vessels, named Noordzee, Waddenzee and Zuiderzee, can sail under diesel-direct, diesel-electric or fully-electric power. This will result in a significant increase in fuel efficiency and reduction of exhaust emissions.
Damen Bags Maintenance Deal with Dutch, Swedish Navies
The Damen Shipyards Group informs it has signed a contract with the Dutch and Swedish Ministries of Defense for a seven-year, in-service maintenance contract covering a total of five tugs, all of which were purchased from Damen. The agreement with the Royal Netherlands Navy (RNLN) covers three Damen ASD 2810 Hybrid tugs. Two of these, the Noordzee and Waddenzee, were delivered in February and April respectively. The third, named the Zuiderzee, is due for delivery in June. Their maintenance will be provided by the nearby Damen Shipyards Den Helder.
Damen’s First LoFlo BWTS Delivered for RNLN Submarine

Damen to Refit RNLN Torpedo Ship
Damen Shiprepair & Conversion has won the contract for the life-prolonging maintenance and refit project of the Royal Netherlands Navy torpedo ship Zr Ms Mercuur. The ship, originally built at Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding in 1987, will be refit to make her suitable for a range of new tasks and assignments. The aim of the maintenance project is to keep the ship operational until 2025. The bridge layout will be reconfigured with new communications equipment. Furthermore, the bow will be reinforced and several areas will receive a ‘facelift’ – for example, a completely new and fully equipped kitchen will be installed. Shipdock Yards Adopt Damen Names
On January 1, 2015, Shipdock Amsterdam and Shipdock Harlingen changed names to Damen Shiprepair Amsterdam (DSA) and Damen Shiprepair Harlingen (DSH) respectively. During the last two years, both yards have successfully integrated into Damen Shiprepair & Conversion (DSC), itself part of the Damen Shipyards Group. For example, the close collaboration between DSH and Damen Shipyards Den Helder (DSDH) strongly highlights how customers benefit from the network of yards. Damen Shipyards Group acquired the two Shipdock yards in February 2013.
Norwegian Aquaculture Workboat Marks Damen Entry
Damen Shipyards Group said it has received an order for a Multi Cat 2712 from Norwegian owner Samba AS based in Os (Bergen). The vessel will be the first newbuild from Damen’s proven range of workboats to operate in Norway’s large aquaculture and oil spot market industry. Living up to Damen’s reputation for fast delivery from stock, Damen Shipyards Hardinxveld in the Netherlands will deliver the vessel in June after completing a number of client-specified customizations. The contract was signed on May 8 at the yard. The Multi Cat 2712 will be the third in Samba’s fleet of workboats.

In the past weeks, Damen Marine Components (DMC) and Damen Anchor & Chain Factory (AKF), both part of Damen Shipyards Group, reported successes in their respective lines of business. DMC has completed several projects for the offshore, ports, defense and fishing markets, and is expanding its business and facilities in Poland. It also acquired a new ISO certificate. AKF expands its ready available stock anchors. AKF reported the arrival of the first shipment of additional stock size HYT-12 and HYD-14 anchors in June.
Damen Completes Seismic Vessel Repairs on Time
Seismic Vessel 'Polarcus Adira' visits Damen Shipyards, Den Helder for repair, modification & installation work. Damen Shiprepair Den Helder (The Netherlands) was awarded the contract for modification work on the ‘Polarcus Adira’ operated by Dubai-based Polarcus, which operates one of the world's largest seismic vessel fleets. The vessel arrived on berth at Den Helder for insulation and lighting works in the Seismic Control Room; delivery and installment of Barovani Stands & Reel Frames; and rerouting cables and pipelines of the AC unit in the Engine Control Room.
