Damen Delivers Patrol Vessel to Nigeria

Homeland Integrated Offshore Services Ltd (Homeland) of Lagos, Nigeria, has taken delivery of another Damen 3307 Patrol Vessel for operations in the offshore oil fields in the Gulf of Guinea. This takes the total delivered vessels/Guardians since the first arrived in early 2014 to four. Guardian 4 has joined its three sister ships in providing security services to the oil majors active in Nigeria’s territorial waters, together with additional support services including crew transfers and equipment deliveries.

Bahri Drybulk Receives New 82,000 DWT Ship

The National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia (Bahri) subsidiary Bahri Dry Bulk (owned 60% by Bahri and 40% by Arasco) has taken delivery of the vessel 'Bahri Bulk' from shipbuilders in Japan. Bahri inform that this is the third vessel delivered from the 5 vessels that were contracted from leading Japanese shipyards in 2012. The financial impact of the delivered vessel will materialize during the first quarter of 2014G. They explain that these vessels have a capacity of 82,000 dwt and length of 229 meters, consumes less fuel and are considered to be eco-friendly.

China Leads Shipbuilding World-Wide

According to a report from The National, at China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC) yard in Tanggu, a coastal town an hour by fast train from Beijing, the BBC Fuji is taking shape, a 390.5-ft multi-purpose heavy-lifter vessel. CSIC is China's biggest shipbuilder and China makes more ships than any other country in the world. In the first six months of last year, the dragon economy delivered vessels totaling 22.7 million deadweight tonnage (DWT), compared with 18.3 million DWT for the second-placed South Korea. ABG Shipyard Delivers Vessel

ABG Shipyard announced that it has delivered and transferred the vessel 61M Anchor Handling Tug / Supply Vessel to Egypt based Maridive & Oil Services SAE. Seaspan Delivers Vessel

Seaspan Corporation announced the delivery of its 23rd vessel, the Maersk Moncton, a 4800 TEU containership built in 1989. The vessel was purchased from A.P. Moller Maersk A/S (APMM) and will be time chartered back to APMM for five years from delivery. APMM has options to extend the charter by up to four years from the end of the firm charter period. The Maersk Moncton, formerly named the Mathilde Maersk, is the final ship in the series of four sister vessels purchased from and chartered back to APMM.

Knightsbridge Enters Long Term Capesize Charters

Knightsbridge Shipping Limited (KSL) has entered an agreement with RWE Supply & Trading GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of RWE AG, for chartering out a total of 15 Capesize vessels on long term contracts. The basis of the transaction is to employ the vessels on index linked contracts. The earning of each vessel is decided through a pre-agreed premium on top of the prevailing spot market (Baltic Cape Index 4 T/C), reflecting the better performance of the new generation Capesize vessels. The vessels will be delivered over the coming five quarters starting first quarter 2015. The transaction is done on a to-be-nominated basis where the company will deliver vessels on a fairly evenly spread basis through until the first quarter of 2016.

Bahri Receives New General Cargo Ship

The National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia (Bahri) receive the 'Bahri Hofuf' from the South Korean shipyard Hyundai Mipo. The new 26,000 dwt general cargo ship is the second vessel delivered from the six vessels that were contracted by the Company with this shipyard in 2011 for a total value of SAR 1,543 million. Bahri has four general cargo vessels remaining under construction at Hyundai MIPO in South Korea with delivery expected to take place during 2013 and the first half of 2014. Bahri say that the financial impact of the delivered vessel, Bahri Hofuf, on their revenue will materialize during the second quarter of 2013G.    

Arabian Gulf Service Contract

Austal confirmed an unconditional contract has been signed with Oman’s National Ferries Company (NFC) for the maintenance of seven large high-speed craft. The contract requires Austal to deliver vessel maintenance services for NFC’s five high speed ferries and two Oman Coast Guard rescue boats, co-managed by NFC, for a period of up to five years. Work will be performed by Austal at various regional ports within the Sultanate of Oman, including the capital city, Muscat. Austal’s service presence in the Middle East now includes hubs for the Red Sea (Egypt) and the Arabian Gulf (Oman)…

Maersk Line Implements BigOceanData Vessel Tracking

BigOceanData and Maersk Line have entered into a two-year agreement whereby BigOceanData will deliver vessel tracking services to Maersk Line. The initial system went live on August 1, 2016 and is already in use in operation centers around the world on both desktop and mobile devices. BigOceanData is now working with Maersk Line to optimize the vessel tracking system for their in-house systems. BigOceanData is initially being used to track Maersk Line’s fleet, a total of approximately 630 owned and chartered vessels…

New PSV from Ulstein to Support North Sea Wells

Ulstein’s yno 298, Blue Guardian, a platform supply vessel of the Ulstein PX121 design, has been contracted to support the jack-up rig Maersk Giant in its work on two subsea wells on the Norwegian continental shelf in the North Sea. The contracts with Det Norske Oljeselskap ASA and Repsol Exploration, respectively, have an estimated total duration of four months. Blue Guardian is in her final phase of construction, and is scheduled for delivery from Ulstein Verft at the turn of this month. The estimated start-up of the contractual work is in mid-July.

SAAB/ICAN Wins Major AIS Contracts

Saab Transponder Tech and International Communications and Navigation Limited (ICAN) have been awarded contracts by Lockheed Martin Overseas Corp. to provide Automatic Identification System (AIS) solutions for Greece and Turkey. Complying with all IMO performance standards, the software delivers vessel position and related information from ship to ship and from ship to shore. It is formatted to provide collision avoidance capability on the ship's bridge and to augment vessel traffic management systems. Ships will carry a transponder that broadcasts the ship's identity, position, speed, course and other information to all other AIS users within VHF Radio range.

M/V Juanita Candies was successfully delivered to Otto Candies, Inc. The vessel immediately departed Mobile en route to Fouchon, La. to go on long-term charter to Conoco in support of their deepwater drilling program. Both Agnes Candies and Juanita Candies have gone to work on high profile, deep water drilling projects, which is exactly the kind of work they were designed to perform. Feedback from the Candies operations people confirm the vessels are performing their mission well. Their customers comment positively in regard to the vessels' fast cargo pumping rates, station keeping ability and stability in high seas. The Agnes Candies crew reports the first time the vessel was called upon to unload in 10-12 ft. seas in the d/p mode, they experienced heavy rolling in the beam sea.

CSC Launches Gas Storage Integrity Management Team

UK-based Chesterfield Special Cylinders (CSC) has launched a new integrity management team to work with owners and operators of high pressure gas storage vessels as installed in rigs and ships, and with gas majors and classification bodies to maximize vessels’ lifetime performance and safety. The integrity team is now managing periodic inspections and tests at its Sheffield, England factory as well as delivering them worldwide while the vessels remain installed. It is also delivering vessel life extension support services to high pressure gas users globally.

GPA Signs Contract for Petrobras Vessels

Naval Architecture firm Guido Perla & Associates, Inc. (GPA) signed a contract with the Brazilian Shipyard Detroit Brasil Ltda., a subsidiary of Detroit Chile, to deliver the Basic/Class Design and Detailed / Construction Engineering for four PSV 4500. Throughout the design and engineering process, GPA worked closely with the shipyard to meet all of Petrobras’ requirements for these vessels, which will be owned and operated by Brazilian-based Starnav. During the construction process, GPA will also provide onsite supervision in Itajai, Brazil, at Detroit Brasil Ltda.

MacGregor Optimises UASC's Container Vessels Payload

United Arab Shipping Company's first ultra-large container vessel has entered service equipped with a MacGregor high-efficiency cargo handling system, which is designed to maximise payload potential and operational efficiency and reduce environmental impact by minimising emissions per TEU carried. Delivered by Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries' (HSHI) Mokpo shipyard on 8th May, Barzan is the first in a series of six 18,800 TEU container carriers for United Arab Shipping Company (UASC), designed to set new standards in fuel and energy efficiency.

ECO Fleet to be Outfitted with Autoload

Autoship Systems Corporation announced that Edison Chouset Offshore LLC (ECO) of Galliano, LA, USA has chosen to have their offshore fleet of vessels outfitted with the Autoload onboard stability program. “The delivery of the Autoload software will be a staged roll-out for the ECO fleet. The initial install is set for 68 of the latest-delivered and soon-to-be delivered vessels. Staging after this group will be the remainder of the ECO deepwater fleet, inclusive of PSVs, AHTSVs and Deep Water Support Vessels. When the effort is completed, over 150 ECO vessels will be fitted with the Autoload software.” stated Gary Rook, Technical Director for ECO.

Austal Sells Second Vessel into NY Market

Austal USA has signed a contract with Cloud Nine of New York to construct a 135 ft. dinner cruise monohull. This is the second sale by Austal USA to the New York market this year and will further showcase the company’s ability to deliver a high quality, customised product. Austal’s Managing Director, Bob McKinnon said the sale of the new monohull is a strong indication of the immediate success of Austal USA in delivering vessels to the US domestic market. “We are very pleased to see that orders for Austal USA are progressing well,” McKinnon said. Cloud Nine specialise in offering private, luxury dinner cruises for social and corporate groups and have developed a large base of repeat customers.

Damen Shipyards Group recently delivered an ASD Tug 2810 to Rimorchiatori Augusta. The vessel, named Capo Boeo, is operating in the Sicilian Port of Augusta. Rimorchiatori Augusta is a new venture for the Rimorchiatori Riuniti Group and this is the first new vessel for the company, demonstrating its commitment to future operations in the port. Capo Boeo arrived in Sicily on 2 December having sailed on her own keel from Damen Song Cam Shipyard in Vietnam. The client selected Damen due to requiring a fast delivery time for their vessel.

Tuco Delivers Pilot Boat to Sea Charter

Tuco Marine has delivered the first vessel specially designed and equipped for pilot services to the shipping company Sea Charter A/S. The vessel, a ProZero 12m DC built at Tuco´s facilities in Faaborg, has been chartered to the Danish National Pilot Service Company DANPILOT, who will use the boat in a new flexible internal boat program. The ProZero 12m DC will enter service at several of DANPILTS pilot stations during the charter. The vessel underwent sea trials in the cold January conditions offered by the bay off Faaborg.

BMT SMART Appoints McKelvie Product Manager

BMT SMART Ltd. (BMT), a subsidiary of BMT Group Ltd., an international maritime design, engineering and risk management consultancy, announced the appointment of Laura McKelvie as Product Manager. A University of Southampton graduate in Naval Architecture, Laura has been working with BMT for five years specializing in vessel performance monitoring and analysis. She has been involved in all aspects of the BMT Smartservices product offering including performance analysis and consultancy and product installations on a variety of vessels.
