Engine Overhaul for OSV Seven Atlantic

One of the world's most advanced diving support vessels has undergone a comprehensive power plant refurbishment and maintenance program.Engineers undertook the 30,000 running hour major service on the generator engines on board the 140-meter-long Subsea 7 Seven Atlantic, said power specialist Royston who completed the diesel engines overhaul.The work by Royston saw the Wartsila W7L32 diesel generator No.5 disassembled to install new cylinder heads, air start valves, indicator cocks, injectors and cylinder seals.

Mermaid Maritime Wins Middle East Contract

Thailand-based subsea and offshore drilling services company Mermaid Maritime Public Company announced that its Middle East business unit has been awarded a subsea services contract in a GCC country with an initial contract value of USD 16 million.The contract award, with work scheduled to be performed in the Arabian Gulf during the course of August 2018 until March 2019, will involve the use of the DP2 Dive Support Vessel ‘Mermaid Endurer’ equipped with the Air and SAT Dive systems carrying out the overhauling and dry docking of the calm buoys and installation and disconnection of certain SPMs for an international Oil & Gas company…

Purpose-built Daughter Craft Delivered to Aberdeen

Unique Group, an integrated turnkey subsea and offshore solution provider, has now delivered two new dive systems and a diving vessel worth around £5 million to global services provider, Vertech. The Hydracraft 1500 Daughter Craft vessel, named the Vaila, is nearly 50 feet long and designed for air diving activity. The hull is designed to provide an enhanced stability, optimizing operational efficiency. Unique Group’s UK Managing Director, Ray Hughes, handed the vessel over to Vertech’s UK Managing Director, John Marsden, and Vertech’s Diving Manager, Alan Melia in Aberdeen last week.

DOF Subsea, Seaway Extend Contract

DOF Subsea, provider of integrated subsea solutions, has been awarded a Master Service Agreement (MSA) extension with Seaway Heavy Lifting for the provision of positioning services onboard its Stanislav Yudin and Oleg Strashnov crane vessels. DOF Subsea offers services to third parties across the globe through its survey and positioning division. Babcock Completes DSV Refit for Bibby

Babcock has completed a contract to undertake a substantial refit on Bibby Offshore’s dive support vessel (DSV), Polaris, at its Rosyth dockyard. The project was Bibby’s largest ever refit package and underlines Babcock’s move to expand its role in the maintenance and refitting of complex oil and gas support ships. The Bibby Polaris vessel is one of Bibby’s international fleet consisting of eight subsea support vessels, including the most modern fleet of DSVs in the North Sea.

IMCA Publish "Dive Technician Competence and Training"

Competent and well trained technicians are vital for safe offshore diving operations. Equipment used to support and conduct diving operations requires technicians for its installation, maintenance, inspection, testing and repair. The correct functioning of the equipment is essential to the well-being of the divers and other members of the dive team. Contractors who use the services of dive technicians have an obligation to ensure that personnel are correctly trained and have the required level of competence for the equipment and in the operations they are conducting. The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) advises on safe use of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC's). Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) are widely used in a variety of small and large pieces of equipment on marine construction vessels, for example, cranes, winches, handling systems, dive systems and power management systems. The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) has issued a PLC information note to help ensure that operation and failure modes are understood, and highlighting the importance of carrying out an FMEA (failure modes and effects analysis) and testing the components and complete systems.

Global Diving & Salvage Acquires Offshore Divers

Seattle-based Global Diving & Salvage, Inc. has announced the acquisition of Offshore Divers of Anchorage, Alaska. As Global Offshore Divers, the new company will continue to be based out of Anchorage, utilizing the same personnel and management team that has served the offshore oil and gas fields in Cook Inlet and the North Slope for over a decade. Global Diving & Salvage CEO Tim Beaver said that keeping Offshore’s existing management and staff in place was a key consideration in the acquisition, coupled with future project opportunities.
