SWS Launches New Tanker for Enesel

Greek shipping company the Enesel Group announced the launch of its new Aframax/LR2 tanker Kavafis.The newbuild, which is currently being built by China's Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co Ltd (SWS), is the first in a series of three vessels ordered by the Enesel Group. It was launched on December 30, Enesel said.The vessel will be classed by Lloyd’s Register and built to Hellenic flag requirements.It is scheduled for delivery in April 2023.

Harley to Lead Britannia's Greek Office

London based P&I club Britannia said it has finalized plans to open its Greek office in Piraeus as part of an ongoing expansion of the club’s regional hub network.The Greek office will be headed by David Harley who recently returned to the London office having established and worked for over five years as head of Britannia, Hong Kong. Harley will be assisted by newly appointed Konstantinos Samaritis, who joins from a Greek shipowner, having previously worked for both Standard and Skuld Clubs’ Greek operations.

Esben Poulsson, New President for Singapore Shipping Association

The Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) has named Asian shipping veteran Esben Poulsson as its new president, succeeding Evergreen’s Patrick Phoon. “I am honored and humbled to be appointed president of this active and vibrant organization, consisting in excess of 470 member companies,” Poulsson said. "His boundless energy, enthusiasm and sheer passion for our industry is there for all to see and stepping into his shoes will be a huge task for me – albeit he leaves the association in good shape, and ready for the many challenges ahead. It is almost impossible to exaggerate his massive contribution to the SSA over so many years," he added.

FSL Trust Appoint Esben Poulson Independent Director

Korean Shipyard Names Five New Containerships

Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), which claims to be the world’s biggest shipbuilder says that it set a new daily naming ceremony record by naming 5 containerships (ordered from Enesel) on a single day. In a simultaneous naming ceremony attended by Mr. Andonis Lemos; Mr Filippos Lemos; Mr. Kim Oi-hyun, President & CEO of Hyundai Heavy Industries; and other 130 participants at HHI’s yard in Ulsan, South Korea, the sponsors including Mrs. Irini N. Lemos, mother of the Lemos brothers and four other ladies, named three 10,500TEU containerships and two 13,800TEU containerships for the Greek owner.

Taiwan's Evergreen Plans Mega-Containership Fleet Upgrade

Evergreen Marine Corp, Taiwan's largest container shipping company, plans to charter seven new vessels with capacity of 14,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) to upgrade its fleet at lower unit costs, while disposing of smaller and older vessels, reports the Taipei Times, . The seven vessels — owned by Sumitomo Corp, a leading integrated trading company in Japan — are scheduled to be delivered to Evergreen in 2016 and 2017, with a 10-year term of tenancy.
