Brennan Opens a New Location in Paducah, Ky.

La Crosse, Wis.-based dredging, diving and marine construction company J.F. Brennan Company said it established a permanent Mid-South Region presence in Paducah, Ky., and will provide all Brennan services, including above and below-water construction and environmental remediation services.The Mid-South team consists of locals in the area and is under the leadership of Robert "Bob" Wheeler, who recently joined Brennan from Shimmick Construction Company, Inc. and most notably worked on the Olmsted Lock & Dam and the LaGrange Lock & Dam Major Rehabilitation projects, both operated by the U.S.

Crowley Completes Challenging Fuel Delivery in the Arctic

Crowley said it overcame a number of challenges to lighter and deliver nearly four million gallons of military specification fuel to Eareckson Air Station on the Aleutian Island of Shemya in Alaska.Shemya’s radar and aircraft refueling station, Eareckson Air Station, and the 180 service members, contractors and civilians who operate it rely on Crowley’s twice-yearly fuel deliveries to supply fuel required for incoming aircraft for the Defense Logistics Agency, U.S. Coast Guard, Air Force and other state and federal agencies.

GLDD Wins $164 Million in Dredging Awards

Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Corporation (Great Lakes), provider of both dredging services in the United States and environmental and infrastructure services, announced the receipt of a several dredging awards totaling $164 million. the Delaware River Deepening Variation Order (Capital, Delaware, $14.3 million). The scope of work for the four coastal protection projects includes sustenance of beachfronts with sand excavated from off-shore borrow which is then used to rebuild dunes and restore the shorelines eroded by winter storms.

Great Lakes Inks M.E., N.C. Coastal Protection Project Deals

Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Corporation (“Great Lakes”) (NASDAQ:GLDD), the largest provider of dredging services in the United States and a major provider of environmental and infrastructure services, announced today the signing of two subcontracts valued at approximately $55 million for work in the Middle East as well as the receipt of a $38 million award for a coastal protection project in North Carolina. The first subcontract in the Middle East is for a land development project and involves dredging over 7 million cubic meters of material by creating several water circulation channels and pumping the resulting material up to 7,000 meters to its designated reclamation area.

Port of Cleveland to Address Critical Problems

The Port is leading critical intitiatives for river renewal and infrastructure improvements. •    Managing sediment dredged annually from the river. Enough sediment is scooped out annually to fill a sports stadium – and then deposited in what are essentially landfills along the lake. But experience and scientific analysis has shown that sediment is a resource that can be used to benefit the community. We are leading efforts to develop the mechanisms and market to make that happen. •    Repairing or replacing bulkheads that line the ship channel. Research indicates that bulkheads do not exist or are in poor condition along 29,000 feet of the channel. Fixes are crucial to protect shipping and set the stage for more job-creating and recreational developments.

Bermuda Voices Concerns About Ship Size

Bermuda's transport minister came out against allowing a new generation of huge cruise ships capable of carrying up to 3,000 passengers to dock at the islands. Transport Minister Ewart Brown said the British territory did not want the massive cruise ships to dock because of environmental and infrastructure concerns. A draft government policy on the cruise ship industry will reflect concerns that the island's shipping lanes would need to be dredged to handle the massive ships, which could eventually damage Bermuda's world-famous coral reefs. Brown said Bermuda could comfortably handle ships with 1,500 passengers, but those with 3,000 would severely strain the mid-Atlantic island's ferry and taxi services.
