The Evac Evolution Ballast Water Management System (BWMS) has received Type Approval from the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG).The system is manufactured by Cathelco, now part of the Evac Group, who attained USCG Alternate Management Systems (AMS) acceptance for their original BWMS over four years ago.When it became apparent that the USCG’s definition of ‘non-viable’ would become the universal standard for testing systems, Cathelco redesigned their equipment and embarked on another round of land-based and shipboard testing which was successfully completed last autumn.This is the first U.S.

Evac Group has appointed Claes Rudling as global Business Area President, Offshore and Merchant, effective January 23, 2017. Rudling will continue as CEO of Uson Marine, which was acquired by Evac Group in December 2016.   Rudling is a member of the Evac Group Management Team. The acquisition is expected to increase Evac’s market share in dry and wet waste management systems, as well as strengthen the Group’s position with regard to small and medium-sized marine and offshore vessels. Thanks to the acquisition, customers of both Evac and Uson Marine will benefit from an improved service network and enlarged offering. After this acquisition Evac Group’s turnover will be over 110 MEUR. Uson Marine provides dry and wet waste management systems, including food waste systems, for maritime and offshore industry customers.

While the term ‘pioneer’ is oftentimes loosely bandied about, there is no more accurate term to describe Jochen Deerberg, an environmental pioneer of the maritime industry, founder of Oldenburg, Germany-based Deerberg-Systems, who was recently feted by cruise industry luminaries at his farewell dinner late last year. “To start in 1979 one could see that environmental-waste management problems on shore and especially in the maritime industry would be of great importance in the future,” said Deerberg. “Of course, I was 10 years too early with my idea.
