ABP Southampton Gets New Marine Services

Associated British Ports’ (ABP) Port of Southampton and VT Halmatic have signed a marine services contract. VT Halmatic will provide a Fleet Contract Hire Scheme to ABP Southampton, one of the UK’s largest and busiest ports. ABP Southampton’s existing pilot, survey and patrol fleet comprising seven vessels will be procured by VT Halmatic and leased back on a fully supported contract for ten years, incorporating a six-vessel replacement programme. The first replacement vessels will be delivered to ABP’s Gosport Pilotage Station before the end of 2003 with further vessels coming on line over the duration of the contract. The new pilot cutters will be the well-proven Halmatic Nelson 48/50.

Bay Bridge Enterprises Gets Latest Ghost Fleet Contract

MarAd will pay Bay Bridge Enterprises $494,000 to remove the Vulcan and tow it to its Chesapeake salvage yard on the Elizabeth River within 45 days. The Vulcan is a former Navy repair ship built in 1941. The Vulcan will be recycled for steel. The company will also remove and dispose of waste fuels and other potential pollutants on the ship. Bay Bridge Enterprises has gotten several contracts to scrap Ghost Fleet ships from the Maritime Administration.

Tugboat Ordered for Service in Port of Riga, Latvia

The vessel is due to be delivered to PKL Flote in the summer of 2013. It is planned to operate the new tugboat in Riga port, where PKL Flote already employs a vessel of the same type – Castor – which has already proved itself very well in Riga Port. PKL intends to keep modernizing its fleet. Twelve new tugboats have been constructed over the past several years, operating in Estonia, Finland and Latvia (Ventspils). The new tugboat is designed as an icebreaking class ARC4, which allows it to operate in areas with one-meter-thick ice, and in addition the tugboat is to be equipped with a powerful external fire-fighting system. Santa Fe Intl. Plans Mid-Quarter Update Call

Santa Fe International Corporation will conduct its regular Mid-Quarter Conference Call to update its rig fleet contract status on Wednesday, September 12, 2001, at 10:00 AM CDT/11:00 AM EDT. PC Maritime to Install ECDIS in 50-vessel China Shipping Deal

PC Maritime’s ECDIS has been fitted to newbuild Shen Hua 521 as part of a 50-vessel contract with China Shipping Group.

PC Maritime’s Navmaster ECDIS has been chosen by China Shipping Group to be fitted to 50 newbuild bulk carriers. This large ECDIS fleet contract was negotiated by Bogerd Martin NV’s subsidiary company, Bogerd Martin China, based in Shanghai. The vessels vary in size between 46,000 dwt and 76,000 dwt. Ten vessels already have single Navmaster ECDIS installed and the remaining 40 bulk carriers are to be equipped during the next 12 months. Later on, China Shipping Group intends to fit a second ECDIS onboard in order to go paperless. U.K.

Topaz to Supply 14 Vessels for BP in Azerbaijan

Offshore support vessel company Topaz Energy and Marine informs it has secured 14 offshore support vessel contracts with BP Exploration (Caspian Sea) Limited. Under the terms of the agreement, Topaz will supply 14 offshore support vessels for a five-year period plus two one-year options at current market terms, primarily in support of BP’s ACG and Shah Deniz II fields offshore Azerbaijan. The agreement extends currently running contracts for the 14 vessels until 2023 including all options. These contracts bring Topaz’s global revenue backlog to nearly $1.4 billion.

Spanish liquefied natural gas (LNG) operator Gas Natural Fenosa signed an exclusive 10-year LNG supply deal with Spanish ferry operator Baleària. According to the company release, the supply contract will initially apply to the ports of Barcelona, Valencia and Algeciras, then extended to all the peninsular ports operated by the shipping company together with the entire new fleet powered by this fuel committed to using LNG as an ecological fuel. EMC VSAT Service for Seven GulfMark PSVs

EMC has taken orders to supply VSAT equipment and services for seven platform supply vessels in the North Sea as part of a four-year fleet agreement with GulfMark (Norway). The scope of supply for each vessel includes a 60-inch Ku-band stabilized antenna and below-deck terminal interfaced with the ship’s network and third-party GSM voice system. EMC will also provide the satellite airtime for crew welfare and mission-critical voice and data communications. The installations will take place over the next 12 months as the vessels become available. “GulfMark’s vessels operate in an extremely demanding market segment with rigorous requirements for uptime, connectivity, bandwidth, data throughput and content,” said Gilles Gillesen, president of EMC’s commercial marine business unit.

Dutch ship owner De Poli Tankers BV has extended its contract with Marlink, securing high-bandwidth global communication using the Sealink Plus service for its fleet of eight chemical tankers and two gas tankers. De Poli Tankers' in-house ITC company, Maritime Performances BV, chose to retain the Sealink Plus service for the future as it combines high-bandwidth VSAT with unlimited L-band back-up in a single easy to manage bundle, Marlink said. Star Bulk New Charter for Capesize Star Beta

Star Bulk Carriers Corp. (Nasdaq: SBLK), a global maritime transportation company focusing on dry bulk cargoes announced the Star Beta, a Capesize vessel of 174,691 dwt, built in 1993, has been time chartered for a period of 13 to 15 months at a gross daily rate of $32,500. The vessel is expected to be delivered to its new charterers within February 2009. The company has reached agreements in principle with its lenders to obtain waivers for certain covenants including minimum asset coverage covenants contained in its loan agreements. With respect to the $120m facility, the lender will waive the loan-to-value ratio covenant through January 31, 2010.
