Chantiers de l’Atlantique Orders 'Goliath' Shipyard Crane
Konecranes and Chantiers de l’Atlantique, a shipyard in St. Nazaire, France, have signed a contract for the delivery of a Konecranes Goliath gantry crane. It will handle large ship blocks and panels over the dry dock, playing a leading role in ship assembly at the shipyard. The order was booked in the fourth quarter of 2019.The Konecranes Goliath crane will be delivered with the cooperation of both parties. It will be manufactured in Europe by Konecranes in its entirety. The crane assembly on-site and the erection work will be done in cooperation between the shipyard and Konecranes.

Meyer Turku Investing Profits in its Shipyard
Coming off of three straight profitable years, Finnish shipbuilder Meyer Turku said it is using its profits to finance a 200 million euro ($237 million) investment program at its Turku shipyard.The cruise ship builder reported its 2017 revenue was 807.7 million euros ($959 million) compared to 2016’s 787.5 million euros ($935 million). Net profit for the financial year rose from 26.2 million euros ($31.1 million) (3.3 percent of revenue) to 32.2 million euros ($38 million) (4 percent of revenue).Meyer Turku delivered two ships in 2017, the first time in decades.
Prince Charles Places Final Section of UK Aircraft Carrier
The second of the largest warships ever built for the U.K. Royal Navy, the Queen Elizabeth Class carrier HMS Prince of Wales, was given the royal seal of approval when HRH The Prince of Wales, (or Duke of Rothesay, as he is referred to in Scotland), visited Babcock’s Rosyth Facilities and signaled for the final section to be lowered into place, shipbuilder BAE Systems announced. The 570-metric-ton block – known as Sponson 11 – was the final section of the 280-meter-long warship to be manufactured.
Goliath Appears on the Polish Horizon
Mammoet, a service provider specializing in engineered heavy lifting and transport, has lifted up a 120-meter-high crane for its installation in the port of Szczecin in Poland. The Goliath crane was built by Van Haagen Kraanbouw in the Netherlands and transported to the fabrication site of Bilfinger Mars Offshore. Mammoet constructed a tailor-made gantry with a height of 127 meters especially for this project – the tallest gantry ever built by the company in Europe – to execute this lifting operation. Gantries normally raise loads from an overhead beam between two supporting towers.
Konecranes' Goliath crane for Meyer Turku Shipyard
Konecranes will deliver a new 1,200 ton Goliath gantry crane to Meyer Turku Oy. The design, precision drive components, electrical installation and automation system and structural components will be supplied by Konecranes, while Meyer Turku will manufacture the main girder in its own hull production. The new crane will be taken into use in May 2018. The order also includes a modernization of the Turku shipyard’s current 600 ton crane, service and maintenance parts. “The first major step of our big investment program for Turku yard is becoming concrete. The new crane will allow for more industrialization and increase output capacity. The new crane will be a nice continuation of our collaboration with Konecranes that already started in the 1970’s with the building of our old 600 ton crane.
CHIC Cranes for Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex
Contracts for unique equipment supplies were awarded during the visit of Rosneft Chairman of the Management Board Igor Sechin to China. Zvezda Far East Shipyard and Nantong COSCO Heavy Industry Co.,Ltd(CHIC) have signed a contract for the supply of 9 cranes for Zvezda shipyard in the presence of Igor Sechin, Rosneft Chairman of the Management Board. The document was signed by Evgeny Kraynov, Zvezda Project Leader and Zhao Zengshan, General Manager of Nantong COSCO Heavy Industry Co. Ltd. According to the contract, CHIC is to supply equipment with unique characteristics to the construction site of Zvezda shipyard in 2016-2017 – a 1200 t Goliath crane, four 320 t cranes and four 100 t cranes. In addition, Zvezda Far East Shipyard and Suzhou Dafang Special Vehicle Co.
HMS Prince of Wales’ Aft Island Lifted into Place
The Aircraft Carrier Alliance successfully lifted one of the final sections of the second Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carrier in Rosyth on Friday, January 8 following its arrival from Glasgow. The 750-metric-ton block was raised 25 meters in the air using the Goliath crane and placed on the deck of HMS Prince of Wales, bringing assembly work on the ship significantly closer to completion. This section to be assembled is known as the Aft Island and will control aircraft operations aboard HMS Prince of Wales.

UK Aircraft Carrier's Final Flight Deck Module Installed
The flight deck of the first of the Royal Navy's new aircraft carriers is now finished, with the last 2 sections added to 'HMS Queen Elizabeth' in the Rosyth, Scotland, building yard. The mighty Goliath crane lifted the sponsons – the sections protruding from the hull which give an aircraft carrier its unique shape – to join the remainder of the ship in her dry dock. To accommodate the F-35 Lightning II jets, which will land and take off from the ship, a ski ramp will be installed next month – mirroring the feature which propelled the Harrier skywards on the Invincible-Class of carriers.

The final section of HMS Queen Elizabeth, the first of two new aircraft carriers being built for the U.K. Royal Navy, has left BAE Systems’ shipyard at Scotstoun today to embark on a 600 mile journey to Rosyth. The Aft Island, also known as Upper Block 14, is the air traffic control tower of the ship and the center of all flight operations. Travelling around the north coast of Scotland, the block is scheduled to arrive into Rosyth on Thursday 20 June. Once the island has arrived all sections of the first of class HMS Queen Elizabeth will have been delivered. The BAE Systems built Forward Island for 'HMS Queen Elizabeth' to transit by barge for mounting in Rosyth shipyard. The iconic Forward Island, known as Upper Block 07, is the hub of the ship as it contains the main bridge and approximately 100 vital mission systems compartments. Weighing 680 tonnes, this is the first block to depart with her final paint colours applied, all windows fitted and consoles installed, along with 43km of cables and 3,101 pipes. It also proudly displays the HMS Queen Elizabeth crest.
Princess Yachts Use Goliaths by Street Crane
Princess Yachts, luxury yacht builders, are using freestanding Goliath cranes from Street Crane Company to produce their new 30 to 40 metre M Class tri-deck yachts. The cranes, installed at the historic South Yard of the Devonport Dockyard, will allow large fabrications to be lifted, transported and accurately placed as the yachts are fitted out. There are three cranes in use. The main manufacturing area is serviced by two mirror image Goliath cranes of 16 tonnes safe working load, each spanning 13.75 metres.
Konecranes Get Kvaerner Goliath Crane Order
The Goliath gantry crane will be in operation at Kvaerner’s facilities at Stord on November 2013. The parties have agreed not to disclose the value of the order. The ordered Goliath gantry crane will more than double the lifting capacity, from 350 to 800 tons. The span will be 153 meters and the height 115 meters. With the new Goliath crane Kvaerner will be able to conduct two topside projects in parallel, compared to one earlier. The markets on the Norwegian Continental Shelf show a large number of new oil and gas related onshore and offshore projects coming up during 2012-2020.
Korean Yard Contracted to Build Giant Semi-submersible Rig
Hyundai Heavy, as a turnkey contractor, will undertake all works including engineering, procurement and commissioning for the USD 700 million project. The contract also includes an option exercisable by the owner to order an additional same class drilling rig. The rig will be built at Hyundai Heavy’s Gunsan Shipyard. Equipped with a 1,650 ton Goliath Crane and the world’s largest 1.3 million DWT dry dock, the Gunsan Shipyard has delivered 26 ships since its establishment in 2010.

CSBC Completes Name Change
The China Shipbuilding Corp. (CSBC) completed repainting its new name, Taiwan International Shipbuilding Corp., in Chinese on the huge Goliath crane at the CSBC Kaohsiung shipyard, a CSBC official said Tuesday. The working crew spent the whole day painting the CSBC's new Chinese name on the Goliath bridge crane, which is a hallmark of the CSBC. The repainting task was not easy as the Goliath crane is 177 meters wide and 87 meters high, and each Chinese character on it covers nine square meters, which is the equivalent of approximately three stories in height. The official said that the CSBC's name-change plan has been approved by its board directors, and is awaiting final approval by CSBC general investors March 1.
