BAE Systems Wins U.S. Navy Contract
British multinational company BAE Systems has secured a contract worth $113.5 million to supply an additional 26 amphibious combat vehicles (ACV) to the US Marine Corps (USMC).The company will supply the ACVs under the low-rate initial production (LRIP) phase of the program. The deal will now bring the total ACV order from the USMC to 116, moving the programme closer to full-rate production.The ACV is a highly mobile, survivable and adaptable platform for conducting rapid ship-to-shore operations and brings enhanced combat power to the battlefield. BAE Systems has been in low-rate production since 2018 on the personnel carrier variant in the ACV family, which is envisioned to consist of additional variants including command and control, 30mm medium caliber turret, and recovery versions.
18 Meter Fire-Floats for Bangladesh
Robert Allan Ltd. has delivered a design of two unique fire-floats to Khulna Shipyard Ltd in Bangladesh. The boats will measure 18.9 m x 5.3 m with a special hard chine semi-displacement hull designed for river service and fitted with twin open style skegs for debris protection. The all aluminum hulls will be powered by two 560 kW 6135SFM85 John Deere main engines for a speed of 20 knots. Reduction gears will be Reintjes WAF 244 with 2.5:1 reduction ratio driving stainless steel shafts and bronze propellers.
VIKING Wins Norwegian Police Patrol Boat Contract

Northern Lights Opens Branch Office in Louisiana
Marine power generation and climate control products manufacturer Northern Lights has opened its fifth branch office, in Kenner, La, to enhance service to Gulf and inland waterways boat builders and vessel operators. The new Northern Lights Gulf branch, which will employ a full-time sales, parts and service staff, will warehouse marine, industrial and commercial series products. The new branch will service customers in the Gulf of Mexico and navigable inland waterways in the Midwest and Eastern regions of the U.S., including the region’s key ports: New Orleans, Houston, Pensacola and Paducah.

Blyth Workcats Wins ABP Survey Boat Contract
At the Seawork International Exhibition in Southampton, Blyth Workcats Ltd announced that Associated British Ports (ABP) has awarded it the contract for a new 14-metre survey vessel to be built at the company’s yard on Canvey Island, Essex, UK. The new boat will be based on one of Blyth Workcats’ established survey craft models but built to a bespoke design detailed to meet the specific requirements of ABP’s hydrographic surveyors. The vessel will be based in Hull and used for survey operations throughout the Rivers Humber, Ouse and Trent, covering the ports of Hull, Goole, Grimsby and Immingham. ABP’s four Humber ports together handle more than 65 million tonnes of cargo annually.
Ivory Coast Urban Water Transport Opened to Outside Investors
Ivory Coast abolished a state monopoly on passenger traffic on the lagoon surrounding the commercial capital Abidjan, the government announced on Wednesday, clearing the way for outside investors. Abidjan, a city of around 6 million inhabitants, straddles the Ebrie Lagoon. The SOTRA urban transportation company, majority-owned by the state with a minority interest held by Italian bus manufacturer Iveco, runs several water-taxi lines. Government spokesman Bruno Kone said the waterways had been under-utilized. "This will allow other entities to make major investments," Bruno said after a cabinet meeting. Boston to Receive 69' CBRN Fireboat from MetalCraft
City of Boston is purchasing a new state of the art fireboat with Chemical, Biological, Radiological emergency response capability for the Boston Fire Department. This new vessel will replace the current fireboat “FIREFIGHTER” which has been in service since 1972 and does not have the capabilities need for a modern emergency response fireboat. “Purchasing a new fireboat will greatly enhance public safety in the City and in Boston Harbor and I commend Commissioner Fraser and his staff for their hard work on this issue,” stated Mayor Thomas M Menino.
Metalcraft Towboat for U.S. Navy with UltraJet Waterjets
MetalCraft Marine has delivered its first 26-ft US Navy Tow Boat to Cheatham Annex. Metalcraft Marine was recently awarded a contract by the United States Navy for the construction of eight of their 26-ft tow boats. The tow boats will support the US Navy’s spill recovery, support and salvage operations worldwide. Fully loaded the aluminium tow boat can reach speeds of 34 knots with its Single Iveco NEF 450 hp engine rated at 420 hp (309 kW) driving a single UltraJet 305HT High Thrust Waterjet viz a ZF 280 gearbox. UltraJet waterjets were chosen for their high bollard pull for vessel recovery.

Mitsubishi Engines for Chem Carrier
Chem Carriers, the Sunshine, Louisiana-based cargo carrier, once again chose Mitsubishi engines for its new M/V Dorella Banta. The 70 ft x 28 ft x 10 ft, 131-ton towboat was built by Rodriguez Boat Builders. The twin engines, supplied by Laborde, are Mitsubishi S12A2 series rated at 850 hp at 1,940 rpm. The 12-cylinder, 34-liter engines are EPA compliant. The vessel is equipped with 7:1 reduction gears, allowing the engines to turn 75 inch x 73 inch four-blade stainless steel propellers in a 76 inch Type 19A Kort Nozzel.
Laborde Powers Smith Maritime
Smith Maritime was contracted by a Nigerian company to deliver a 200' lift boat for oil field maintenance. Smith Maritime selected the 5,000 hp tug Rhea and 400' barge Atlanta Bridge for the voyage. The barge was equipped with pumps to allow for controlled sinking and recovery in order to float the lift boat on and off. But they ran into a hitch. Shortly before departing, Smith Maritime discovered the African port was unable to furnish power for the pumps. Within hours Smith Maritime received delivery of a 60 kW Fiat Powertrain Technologies (FPT, formerly Iveco) diesel generator from Laborde.

Iveco Motors Of North America, a subsidiary of Iveco Motors is making waves in the marine industry with the introduction of the NEF 370, the first engine in its new line of marine engines for the pleasure craft industry, from the NEF series of diesel engines. The six cylinder, high performance NEF 370 model features an electronic common rail fuel injection system. With 370 hp and weighing just 1,312 lbs, this engine has a power to weight ratio of 3.54lbs/hp. In addition, the design of the four-stroke NEF engine requires less routine maintenance.
