Superyacht Linked to Sanctioned Russian Oligarch Auctioned in Gibraltar

A $75-million superyacht linked to a sanctioned Russian steel billionaire was auctioned on Tuesday in Gibraltar, court sources said, in what is understood to be the first sale of its kind since Russia invaded Ukraine in February.The Axioma was granted entry into Gibraltarian waters and then impounded by the authorities in March after U.S. bank JP Morgan said its alleged owner Dmitry Pumpyansky had reneged on the terms of a $20 million loan.The 72.5-metre vessel is being auctioned by the Gibraltar Admiralty Court. Keel of Ocean Explorer Laid

Chinese cruise shipbuilding company CMHI Haimen yard carried out the keel laying ceremony for the 'Ocean Explorer'. This is the fourth ULSTEIN X-BOW design in the INFINITY class of expedition cruise vessels that the U.S. based shipowner SunStone Ships has contracted to CMHI.The 'Ocean Explorer' is based on the ULSTEIN CX103 design featuring the X-BOW® by Ulstein Design & Solutions.The INFINITY Class vessels are 104,4 m long and 18,4 m wide. They have a passenger capacity of 264, and a crew capacity of 99, small enough to give an exclusive atmosphere, large enough to yield all expected services and facilities, such as jacuzzi, bar and restaurant, boutique, open-air cinema, gym and spa.The flexible design of the INFINITY class series opens up to new possibilities for every new vessel.

Ulstein Bags SunStone Ship Order

Norwegian ship designer Ulstein has received a contract to design the fourth expedition cruise vessel for Miami-based SunStone Ships, in their Infinity series.The vessel, which will be constructed at the China Merchants Heavy Industries (CMHI)  yard in China, is a CX103 design featuring the X-BOW and designed by Ulstein Design & Solutions.The SunStone ship design contracts were the first cruise contracts for Ulstein, a ship design company with long experience from the offshore industry. Azerbaijan, Russia Introduces New Cruise

The Chairman of Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company (ACSC) Rauf Veliyev and Konstantin Anisimov, the General Director of Moscow River Shipping Company (MRSC) signed in Baku a memorandum of cooperation in cruise shipping in the Caspian region with the use of the new cruise passenger vessel "Peter the Great". The agreement was signed during the visit of the Russian delegation headed by Konstantin Anisimov to Baku. The agreement provides for joint activities on study and development of optimal routes for cruise passenger vessels, such as ports of the Black Sea - inland waterways of the Russian Federation - Astrakhan - ports of the Caspian Sea; Moscow-Baku; Astrakhan - Makhachkala - Baku; Baku-Anzali- Nowshahr -Turkmenbashi-Aktau-Astrakhan and others.

Thustmaster Expands Its Waterjets Team

Marine propulsion and thrusters manufacturer Thrustmaster of Texas announced that Leonard Hill and Jason Hill have joined its waterjet team, bringing with them more than 65 years of experience in waterjet design, manufacturing and sales. Leonard Hill began his waterjet career at Jacuzzi Brothers waterjet division in 1978, and in 1984 purchased the waterjet product line from Jacuzzi to start North American Marine Jet (NAMJet). Leonard invented and introduced a new style of jet to the market place known as the TRAKTOR JET, which combines all the features of the conventional waterjet with higher thrust, especially at low vessel speeds.

Alia Launched the 41m Superyacht Rüya

Turkish shipyard Alia Yachts has launched the 41.29 metre full-displacement motor yacht Rüya. She is a tri-deck sub-500 gross tonne motoryacht that was built in all-composite to Lloyds Register standards and adheres to LY2 and MCA. Following a build period of just over two years, Rüya will now undergo extensive sea trials before delivery to her new owners in September 2015. “We have kept a low profile to date, because building high quality custom yachts has always been our main focus,” says Gokhan Celik, President of Alia Yachts. “And this approach has paid off. IAG Superyacht King Baby on the Water

Chinese shipyard, IAG Yachts, has successfully launched the beautiful 140-foot motor yacht King Baby, destined for an experienced yachtsman. "King Baby" is IAG Yachts' largest motoryacht build to launch so far. She stretches 140-feet while the other two yachts were 100 and 127-feet respectively. The exterior design is by a firm named REDS out of Italy. In fact, they did the interior as well. The yacht should go into charter service once completed and was built for a rather experienced American owner. This particular project had some alterations in its design/build life having ended up at 140-feet when originally it was around 5-feet shorter.

Great Ships of 2001 -- Sorolla

Marking an important stage in the regeneration of the RoRo ferry route network maintained by Compania Trasmediterranea, last spring's delivery of the 28,275-gt RoPax Sorolla strengthened the state-owned firm's position in the Balearics trade. Imbuing both a higher degree of service quality and operational flexibility in an increasingly competitive segment of the Mediterranean market, Sorolla was built at the Vigo yard of Hijos de J.Barreras. She underscored the emergence of the Galician shipbuilder as a growing force in RoRo construction. Privatized in 1998 through its sale by the erstwhile Astilleros Españoles (now encapsulated in IZAR) to a group of Spanish maritime and industrial interests, Barreras also supplied blueprints for sistership Fortuny to IZAR's Puerto Real yard.
