Equinor Extends Drilling Contracts

Equinor, on behalf of the partners, is exercising two options to extend contracts with Archer AS, KCA Deutag Drilling Norway AS and Odfjell Operations AS for a total of four years.The options for drilling services on fixed installations on the Norwegian continental shelf provide jobs for 2,000 people per year and have an estimated value of NOK 18.4 billion.The contracts were signed in 2018 with three option periods of two years. The first two-year option was exercised in 2022.

Hundreds of Oil Workers Strike in Norway

Hundreds of workers on Norwegian offshore oil and gas rigs went on strike on Tuesday after rejecting a proposed wage deal, leading to the shutdown of one Shell-operated field and helping send Brent crude prices higher.One union said hundreds more workers would join the strike on Sunday if an agreement over union demands for a wage increase and pension rights was not reached.Royal Dutch Shell said that due to the strike it was temporarily closing production at its Knarr field, which has a daily output of 23…

KCA Deutag Bags Extension of Ringhorne Platform Drilling Contract

Global drilling and engineering contractor KCA Deutag has annouced that its Norwegian operation, KCA Deutag Drilling Norge AS, has been granted an extension to its current drilling contract on the Ringhorne platform by operator Point Resources AS. The contract extension is for the provision of drilling operations and maintenance services on the Ringhorne platform operating in the Norwegian North Sea. It has an initial term of four years with the option to extend by two further periods of two years each. With over 40 years of platform drilling experience, KCA Deutag is one of the world's largest platform services operators.

Askeladden Seeking its Fortune on Gullfaks

The new Cat J jackup rig Askeladden started drilling on the Gullfaks field on 26 March, with the goal of providing new production from old wells and exploring to create new value. Askeladden has been bought by the Gullfaks licence to carry out production and exploration drilling on Gullfaks Satellites. For several months the rig had to wait on weather, both on its way from the yard in South Korea and when it met the Norwegian winter weather. It arrived at the field on February 19th and on 5 March the legs were firmly placed on the seabed at its final location by the subsea template. “Safety is our top priority – we will not start any operations before we are confident that they can be carried out safely.

Statoil Reports Spud of First Well at Oseberg Vestflanken 2

In the early hours of Sunday 25 February drilling started at Oseberg Vestflanken 2. On the Capital Markets Day on 7 February the project could boast break-even reduction from USD 34 to USD 16 per barrel. The investment budget for Oseberg Vestflanken 2 has been reduced from NOK 8 billion to NOK 6.5 billion. Recoverable reserves have increased, and several digitalisation measures have been initiated. Drilling is performed by the brand new Cat J rig Askepott, purchased by the licence. RDS Wins Engineering and Design Contract for Sea Lion

Rig design and engineering specialist RDS has been awarded a front-end engineering design (FEED) contract by AMEC for Premier Oil’s Sea Lion development in the North Falklands Basin. RDS is the rig design and engineering subsidiary of international drilling and engineering contractor, KCA Deutag. The FEED work is part of AMEC’s overall FEED contract for the Sea Lion development and follows a concept study which was executed by an RDS team in Houston. The contract, which is expected to be carried out over the next 12 months, will see RDS deliver the design of drilling rig modules for a Tension Leg Platform (TLP), 200km north of the Falkland Islands.

Aker Subcontracts RDS for Statoil FEED Work

RDS, a rig design and engineering subsidiary of international drilling contractor KCA Deutag, has been awarded a $10 million contract to carry out front-end engineering design (FEED) work on Statoil’s Johan Sverdrup development in the Norwegian North Sea. The FEED work will be undertaken by the RDS team in London through a subcontract with Aker Solutions for full front end engineering of the drilling facilities throughout the platform. Whilst RDS has worked with most of the major topsides contractors in London and Houston, this will be its first contract with Aker Solutions. The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Aberdeen Section has announced that entries are now open for the 2014 Offshore Achievement Awards. The awards, which are hosted by SPE Aberdeen with the support of principal sponsor TAQA, have recognized outstanding success and innovation in the oil and gas sector for over 27 years. Last year’s awards ceremony attracted a record attendance of more than 530 industry professionals. This year SPE Aberdeen has introduced two new categories, the Inspiring Leader and the Environmentalist awards.

Ace Winches Sets its Sights on Southeast Asia

Ace Winches, the deck machinery specialists, is coming to Malaysia’s capital as part of next month’s Oil and Gas Asia exhibition at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center. The company will be exhibiting as part of the Scottish Development International Scottish Pavilion in Hall 6 on Stand 6124A. Although this is the first time the Scottish manufacturing company will be on display at this trade convention, Ace Winches has a decade of experience in doing business throughout the region. In 2003 the company took its first order from Consolidated Pipe Carriers (CPC) for a ten point mooring spread consisting of 10 25-ton mooring winches and their associated Electric Hydraulic Power Units (HPU’s).

North Sea, UK Sector, Contracts for KCS Deutag

KCA Deutag has won significant subsea drilling operation & maintenance contracts from core clients Total E&P UK, EnQuest & CNR International (CNRI). The company was awarded a contract with Total E&P UK to provide drilling operations and maintenance services on the Alwyn North and Dunbar platforms. Both contracts have already commenced and have a firm two year commitment with options for an extension of up to two years. Secondly, EnQuest has also signed a significant contract with KCA Deutag for a four year extension of its drilling operations and maintenance contract for both the Heather and Thistle platforms. Lastly, a substantial contract extension was awarded by CNRI.

Industry Talent Recognized in the Offshore Achievement Awards

The offshore industry’s highest achievers were recognized at the 2013 Offshore Achievement Awards, with Malcolm Webb, chief executive of Oil & Gas UK, picking up the Significant Achievement accolade. The 27th awards ceremony, which saw a record attendance of 530 guests, took place at the Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference Centre and was hosted by Scottish comedian Kevin Bridges. New Safety Milestone for EnQuest

EnQuest Safety Milestone

EnQuest PLC, the largest UK independent production company in the UK North Sea, has reached a new North Sea safety milestone by recording five years free of Lost Time Incidents (LTIs) on drilling operations in the Thistle field. The LTI achievement covers a period of major operational activity which saw EnQuest bring Thistle drilling back online to drill its first new wells in 20 years. Statoil Awards US$ 5-billion Offshore Drilling Contracts

The five billion dollar assignment includes drilling of new wells, plugging of old wells, workover and maintenance of drilling facilities on 18 of Statoil’s 20 fixed platforms on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS). According to the company, it is the largest NCS contract award since 2010. “Efficient drilling and well services on existing fields are important to maintain production on the NCS and to deliver according to Statoil’s production forecast of 2.5 million barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2020,” says Margareth Øvrum, executive vice president for the Technology, Projects and Drilling business area, in a statement. UK Returns to Semi-Submersible Rig Building

Britain is to return to the world of semi-submersible rig building for the first time in two decades as prices soar and shipyards in South Korea run out of space. SeaDragon Offshore, a newly-formed company is to take over a former vessel construction facility on Teesside to build the first in a series of three drilling units worth up to $1.5b. As many as 600 jobs could be created at the Haverton Hill Shipyard by SeaDragon which plans to float on either the London or the Oslo stock exchange within 12 months. SeaDragon is backed by Lloyds TSB and has brought in some of the most credible names in the offshore world, including KCA Deutag, a part of the London-quoted Abbott Group, plus naval architects Moss Maritime.

CABGOC Awarded Contracts

ChevronTexaco Corp. announced that its wholly owned subsidiary Cabinda Gulf Oil Co. Ltd. (CABGOC) has awarded three major contracts for the first phase of the development of the Benguela, Belize, Lobito and Tomboco (BBLT) fields in Angola's deepwater Block 14. BBLT will be the second major development in the highly prolific Block 14, which has yielded nine discoveries to date. The Kuito Field development, which began production in late 1999 -- 30 months after discovery -- is Angola's first deepwater producer. The BBLT Development is located 50 miles (80 kilometers) offshore in more than 1,250 feet (381 meters) of water.
