The Remora HiLoad DP BR unit design approved by ABS will have advanced capabilities for offloading operations in Brazil's Santos Basin. ABS, a provider of classification services to the global offshore industry, has been selected to class the Remora HiLoad dynamic positioning (DP) BR loading unit, a second generation of the HiLoad DP system that connects to and keeps conventional tankers in position during crude oil offloading from floating production installations. Traditional offloading methods using a mooring buoy solution can be expensive in ultra deepwater fields such as those in Brazil's Santos Basin. Eni Norge AS awards DNV GL a framework agreement for the supply of inspection services to the Goliat platform in the Barents Sea. The term of the contract is three years, with an option for a two-year extension. The assignment consists of planning and carrying out inspections of static equipment, load-bearing structures and offloading and anchoring systems aboard the Goliat FPSO during its operational life. The contract, which will help further reinforce the petroleum cluster in Northern Norway, is in line with Eni Norge’s ambition to create spin-off effects connected with the Goliat project. DNV GL has experience of working for Eni Norge from the company’s Harstad section, for example in the field of oil spill contingency.

Cargotec's MacGregor has completed the acquisition of the mooring and loading systems unit from Aker Solutions. Cargotec announced the agreement to acquire the unit in October 2013 for an enterprise value of approximately €180 million. The unit will be consolidated into MacGregor's results as of February 1, 2014. "The addition of the mooring and loading systems' team members, technologies and products further positions MacGregor as a true leader in the marine and offshore equipment market.

The motor vessel George C. Grugett was delivered August 9, 2013 by Horizon Shipbuilding, Inc. to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) in Memphis, Tenn. This is the second vessel in two years that Horizon has built for the Army Corps. The USACE designated that Hull 776 be named George C. Grugett. The namesake of the vessel was the former Executive Assistant, Memphis District US Army Corps of Engineers. Mr. Grugett was a bomber pilot in World War II from 1943-1945 and then spent 35 years working for the Corps of Engineers. After retiring from the Corps, Mr.

Wilhelmsen Ships Service has completed a major safety system service for the Chevron FSO (Floating Storage and Off-loading unit) Escarvos in South Africa. At the same time, Wilhelmsen Ships Service provided equipment and refrigerant to support the refurbishment of the vessel’s chiller systems. The project, valued at over $450m was completed within tight deadlines through close co-operation between several Wilhelmsen Ships Service’s offices in the company’s global network. The operation, which was coordinated by Wilhelmsen Ships Service’ Customer Services Group in Houston, involved an inspection of the FSO Escarvos’s CO2 and dry powder fire extinguishing system.

Hebridean Island Cruises has pulled out of a $7 million conversion contract with Malta Drydocks and awarded it to a British yard instead, the Malta company said on Tuesday. Scotland-based Hebridean had already issued a letter of intent in favour of Malta Drydocks for the conversion of a modern ship into an old style classic cruise liner, the Malta firm said. Malta Drydocks did not reveal the name of the U.K. yard or the name of the cruise liner. The Maltese yard recently won a $6 million contract to convert the tanker Northia, owned by Brovig RDS of the UK, into a floating production storage and off loading unit and another $6 million contract for maintenance work on the U.S. sixth fleet flagship La Salle. – (Reuters)
