ZF Unveils Condition Monitoring for Thruster Systems

Marine propulsion systems company ZF has introduced an intelligent Condition Monitoring System for thrusters. The technology monitors the status of the thruster system and helps shipyards, shipping companies and fleet operators maintain the safety and efficiency of their ships as well as extend the service life of the propulsion system. In addition to that, a new oil cleaning system ensures oil quality and prolongs oil service life.ZF’s Condition Monitoring System is equipped with various sensors and an intelligent electronic evaluation unit.

Corvus Opens New Facility in Norway

Norwegian-Canadian marine propulsion energy storage solutions provider Corvus Energy has opened its a new battery manufacturing facility in Bergen, Norway. The automated factory is equipped with a digitized production line based on nine robotic stations and has the capacity of up to 400 MWh per year.“There is an electric revolution going on in the maritime sector, and we want to deliver the best solutions in the industry," said Geir Bjørkeli, CEO, Corvus Energy. MAN Diesel & Turbo to Buy 40% Stake in Aspin Kemp

MAN Diesel & Turbo said it has contractually agreed to acquire a 40 percent participation in Aspin Kemp & Associates (AKA), a Canadian company specializing in power supply, energy management and drive systems for marine applications. Jointly, the companies will offer turnkey integrated power, propulsion and automation solutions. AKA co-founder Jason Aspin will remain with the company as Managing Director and shareholder, while the other founding partner, Neale Kemp will sell his shares in AKA and retire from active business operations. MAN Diesel & Turbo said the investment is part of its strategic development program, "Basecamp 3000+", launched in 2016.

Rolls-Royce to Propel New Danish Ferry

Danish ferry operator Mols-Linien has ordered a new passenger ferry from the Rauma Marine Constructions yard in Rauma, Finland. Rolls-Royce will provide the main propellers and propulsion control system to the new ship, which is planned to operate between mainland Denmark and the island of Bornholm, also known as the sunshine island of the Baltic Sea. Rolls-Royce will deliver two units of a Promas system which integrates the controllable pitch propeller, a propeller hub cap, a rudder with bulb and a twisted leading edge into one hydrodynamically optimized unit.
