Michelsson to Join Evac

Waste, wastewater and water management systems provider Evac has appointed Tomas Michelsson as the President, Offshore and Merchant business area, effective January 8, 2018.   Michelsson will replace the former President, Claes Rudling, who has retired during the summer.    Michelsson previously worked as the Vessel Type Responsible (VTR) Global Sales Manager, Ro-Pax and Yachts, ABB Marine, and as the Director, Marine and Offshore business unit, Marioff.

The Switch has recruited Ville Parpala as Director, Product Marketing, Marine Solutions, as it targets its ambition of achieving growth of 200 percent in the marine segment across the next five years. The firm, a specialist in the development and supply of advanced drive train solutions, said it will leverage Parpala’s vast experience and contact book, to push its ability to deliver enhanced efficiency, cost savings and environmental performance to the shipping industry worldwide.

Marioff Launches New HI-FOG Electric Pump Unit

Marioff Corporation Oy has announcd the launch of a new HI-FOG Electric Pump Unit (EPU) for the high-pressure water mist fire suppression segment. Incorporating closed loop pressure control, the EPU revolutionizes pumping technology for high-pressure water mist technology. Marioff, a  developer of the water mist fire protection technology, is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. The EPU’s advanced control system ensures that the pump unit provides only the required pressure and flow.

Maritime Reporter talks with Bart Otten, President, United Technologies Corporation Fire & Security EMEA, at this year’s biggest maritime trade show, the Nor-Shipping Exhibition, regarding the company’s Joint Maritime Approach. Bart Otten heads the Fire and Security Business Unit of UTC in Europe, Middle-East and Africa both for the land and marine business sides. He is also in charge of United Technologies’ entire Marine business initiative. Based in the Europe head office in Brussels, Otten, a Dutch citizen himself, has worked within the UTC Group since 2007.

Carnival Secures Fire Protection Maintenance Contract

Marioff Sign Long Term Carnival HI-FOG Contract

Marioff has signed a five-year frame agreement for maintenance services with Carnival Corporation & plc. The agreement covers servicing and maintaining HI-FOG water mist fire suppression systems already installed onboard 66 cruise vessels owned by Carnival Corporation and operating under Carnival Cruise Lines, Holland America Line N.V., Seabourn Cruise Line Ltd., Cunard Line, Carnival Australia, P&O Cruises, Princess Cruise Lines Ltd and AIDA Cruises brands. Marioff say that the five-year agreement is amongst the most extensive agreements it has ever formed, in terms of scope and duration.

Wärtsilä: Smokeless by Common Rail

There are two main ingredients to common rail fuel injection, one being the freedom to choose injection pressure and timing totally independently of the engine load. The other is computerized control, which makes it possible to consider several engine parameters and optimize the injection and combustion in each load situation. Blue Star Naxos

Blue Star Naxos is the third RoPax, which was constructed under Greek flag and delivered by DSME (Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co. Ltd.) in June 2002 in compliance with the requirements of BV. This vessel is the one of twins and the sister (Blue Star Paros) had been delivered just one and half month ahead of the vessel in April 2002. Classed by BV, the vessel has two car decks and two accommodation decks, while the upper garage deck level is divided into the fore half car space and the aft half crew cabins. This layout allowed the complete separation of the above passenger decks from the lower decks machinery noise and vibration.
