Marlink Acquires Radio Holland's Connectivity Business

Marlink and Radio Holland have concluded a partnership agreement whereby Marlink has acquired Radio Holland’s connectivity business. According to the partners, the deal strengthens Marlink’s position in maritime VSAT, while Radio Holland will be the preferred global sales and service partner offering Marlink’s satcom connectivity portfolio in combination with its maritime electronics solutions. Furthermore, Radio Holland and the Marlink Group, including Telemar, will intensify their existing cooperation in NavCom sales and servicing.

Radio Holland Revamps Cruise Ship Bridge

Holland America Line’s cruise ship MS Noordam recently underwent a 10-day dry-dock period, during which it was fit with a customized bridge from Radio Holland. The work on Netherlands-flagged MS Noordam included refitting the navigation and bridge systems to improve working conditions in line with HAL’s Bridge Resource Management concept. Radio Holland, a supplier, installer and maintainer of maritime electronics, also provided additional equipment including an upgrade of the autopilot interface with the propulsion systems to deliver fuel savings.

Ships Electronic Services (SES), an industry leader in the supply, installation and maintenance of maritime electronics, has won a contract from Finmeccanica – Selex ES to supply a PA & General Alarm system to each of the four Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) Military Afloat Reach & Sustainability (MARS) tankers currently under construction by Daewoo Shipbuilding in South Korea. The contract, which covers an integrated PA system, is part of a wide range of communication equipment ordered from Finmeccanica – Selex ES.

Martek Launches World’s First Network-connected ECDIS

Innovative maritime electronics manufacturer, Martek Marine, releases its one-of-a-kind ECDIS offering to the market today. Named the iECDIS, Martek’s is the first model to integrate a GSM modem, offering automatic download and installation of charts, updates and notices to mariners, reducing the administrative burden associated with CD updates. The GSM modem uses a mobile network signal to keep iECDIS up to date anywhere with mobile signal, even downloading the most recent piracy warnings and weather forecasts which can be instantly overlaid on the chart display itself.

Japanese Fleet ECDIS Contract for Cornes-MARIS Alliance

Norwegian maritime electronics specialist MARIS and Japanese high-tech firm Cornes & Co., Ltd. say they have won their first contract to deliver ECDIS equipment for the entire vessel fleet controlled by an unspecified Tokyo-based ship management company. The order will see MARIS ECDIS900 delivered for 20 bulk carriers, including 12 newbuilds, while installation onboard further bulk carriers is under consideration. Radio Holland Awarded Great Lakes VSAT Order

Radio Holland, a maritime electronics solutions provider, has been awarded a significant, multi-year contract to supply communication network services to a consortium of maritime shipping companies who are members of the Canadian Ship-owners Association (CSA) and the Lake Carriers' Association (LCA). The CSA and LCA member companies operate 131 Canadian-flagged and American-flagged ships providing bulk carrier shipping services on the Great Lakes, coastal and Artic waters of Canada. The site surveys are already underway, and the installations will begin in January. The communication network services supplied by Radio Holland include, amongst others, Seatel VSAT equipment, iDirect, Linksys and Cisco.

Ulstein Formalizes Aftermarket Focus

Ulstein Elektro is formalizing its aftermarket focus through the establishment of a separate service and aftermarket division. “In order to take care of this rapidly growing market, we now offer a separate business area called Ulstein Worldwide Services. When we deliver a system or product, we also commit ourselves to service and maintenance in order to guarantee safe and lasting product use. We provide service and adjustments to all types of maritime services as part of this offer,” says Robert Eksund, service group leader at Ulstein Elektro. The Worldwide Services division has a staff of 35.

Radio Holland Celebrates 90 Years

Radio Holland Group (Rotterdam) celebrated its 90th anniversary in the maritime shipping industry. The company was founded in 1916 in Amsterdam as the "Nederlandsche Telegraaf Maatschappij Radio-Holland" by a group of Dutch ship owners. They saw the significance and necessity of radio communications to the safety and efficiency of shipping. Radio Holland began installing radio stations on board of Dutch merchant vessels. In those years and up to the nineties Radio Holland also employed the radio-officer (also called 'sparks') on board, who operated the equipment and in the early days, the morse key. For this purpose, Radio Holland founded a special own training college for radio-officers after the first World War, in Amsterdam.
