Zero-Emission Adriatic Ship Project Underway

The Zero Emission Adriatic Ship (ZEAS) project has commenced, with 13 partners from various European Countries. The overall project grant from EU Horizon is over EUR 13.5 million, where over EUR 2.3 million is reserved to TECO 2030’s deliverable of 1.2MW of fuel cells for full vessel propulsion.The project focuses on a full-scale demonstration of a hydrogen fuel cell-powered system on a ship, tailored for operation in the Adriatic Sea's delicate marine ecosystem. Port agency and marine services company Inchcape Shipping Services (ISS) announced it has appointed Harun Duzgoren as the regional chief executive officer for the Americas, effective September 1, 2023.Duzgoren brings to the role 23 years of managerial experience in the global marine services industry. Prior to joining ISS, he served as the chief commercial officer of Subsea Global Solutions. Before that, he spent 16 years at V.Group, where he held various senior international positions.

SUNY Maritime to Train NYC’s Next Ferry Captains

NYC Ferry operated by Hornblower is teaming up with the oldest merchant marine academy in the country to deliver a world class training program before a majority of the new NYC Ferry vessels even arrive in New York Harbor. SUNY Maritime College was founded in 1874 as the New York Nautical School, the first school in the nation devoted to training merchant mariners. As part of this new collaboration between NYC Ferry and SUNY Maritime, future captains and crew will have access to SUNY Maritime’s top notch classroom facilities and experienced maritime faculty.

V Ships Attends Maritime Career Day

The 19th Annual Career Days organized by the Istanbul Technical University Maritime Faculty Career Club hosted V. Ships today as the first guest. V. Ships was represented by the personnel managers Efe Sipahi , Volkan Imamoglu and Saygın Suner. Imamoglu and Sipahi started their speeches by introducing their company to the students. They emphasized that they give importance to professional education as a company and underlined that professionalism could be achieved with education.

Maritime Career Days Commence in Turkey

The annual Career Days at Istanbul Technical University each year is scheduled to continue with its 19th organization from November 4-21, 2014. The 19th Career Days will begin with V-Ships Ship Management on November 4 and conclude with Yasa Shipping on November 21, including several other shipping companies in between, as listed below. With this organization, the students who study in the maritime faculty will be able to ask the shipping companies questions and will be given opportunities to work as a cadet for their long-term sea training in these companies.

Maine Maritime Academy receives $450,000 grant From U.S. Maine Maritime Academy has been awarded $450,000 by the U. S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science & Technology Directorate for the development and delivery of maritime ice navigation and first responder courses to complement the U.S. Coast Guard’s Arctic Strategy. Stena, Sonangol Launch Training Facility in Angola

The Centro De Formação Maritima De Angola (CFMA) was officially launched on August 27 by top management from Sonangol, the Angolan public sector energy company and the Stena Group of Sweden. The CFMA is a world class maritime training facility, the first of its kind in Angola and the most modern maritime campus in Africa. Kongsberg Upgrade Simulators for UiT, Norway

Kongsberg Maritime says that UiT, The Artic University of Norway, has contracted them to provide cutting-edge upgrades and extensions of existing ship's bridge simulators for navigation and DP training including human factor studies. UiT's strong focus on maritime and offshore training, human factor studies and R&D projects strengthens knowledge and competence in Advanced Operations in the polar environment. Kongsberg explain that the Arctic is of increasing global importance and is very much in focus within the offshore and shipping industries. Climate change, the exploitation of Arctic resources and environmental threats are topics of great public concern, and which the UiT takes special interest in.

Transas simulation solutions help to develop a plan of the New Container Terminal in MIP, Turkey

Dokuz Eylul University Maritime Faculty, Turkey has conducted a study to develop a new "East Mediterranean Container Terminal" in Mersin International Port (MIP) using Transas Simulation solutions. Yapı Proje Uygulama (YPU) that manage construction project of new container terminal chose the Dokuz Eylul University Maritime Faculty for this project after a comprehensive market research. Vice President of YPU Mr. Ali Ihsan GUNER stated: "Dokuz Eylul University Maritime Faculty has the most advanced simulation system and the most experienced academic staff for Port Design and Planning in Turkey".

Yell Appointed to Zenith Maritime Faculty

Zenith Maritime announced that Capt. David Yell has joined its faculty of 17 instructors across the country. Captain Yell will specialize in teaching those seeking advanced licenses, above the 100 ton Master level. Educated at HMS Conway nautical college in the UK, Yell graduated with honors and received the annual prize for the proficiency in the management of boats. He followed a 24 year career path of Cadet through Master (14 years as Captain) in the merchant service specializing in refrigerated cargos on worldwide voyages.

Marine Tech Summit Set for Singapore

Challenges for the next decade in port and maritime research and development (R&D) and technology will be the focus of the 2nd International Conference on Port and Maritime R&D and Technology (ICPMRDT), to be held from 10-12 September 2003 at the Pan Pacific Hotel, Singapore. Five main sessions, which would be based on the theme "Port and Maritime R&D and Technology", will be featured at the 3-day conference. They are Port Development, Management and Operations; Coastal/Hydraulics Engineering; Marine Environment; Innovative Ship Designs and Operations; and Navigation and Maritime Training. SUNY Maritime Sails to the Rescue

Sailing along the Atlantic coastline from New York , the Empire State rounded Florida , dodged Hurricane Ophelia and cut a path along the same waters that Hurricane Katrina had sliced in its rampant urgency. On board were faculty and staff from SUNY Maritime College , which operates the 565-foot training ship. The Empire State is owned by the federal government, which activated the vessel after Hurricane Katrina. The ship's operators are trading their normal lives to provide disaster relief, leaving their own homes to provide one for the homeless. The Empire State is now serving as a floating hotel for uprooted oil rig workers who are working 24 hours a day to repair a New Orleans oil refinery.
