Michell Bearings Opens Office in Philadelphia

Michell Bearings has announced the opening of a U.S sales and engineering office in Fort Washington, Philadelphia.The office opening follows the incorporation of the U.S business, Michell Bearings Inc., in 2021 to better support customers in North America, especially those in the U.S. naval industry.Key contacts in the Fort Washington office are Joseph Wilkes, VP Engineering Americas, and Jamie Wright, Sales Director Americas—both with many years of experience in the field of hydrodynamic bearings and long established relationships with customers in the U.S.

Michell Bearings Incorporates US Business

Michell Bearings, a U.K. Babbitt bearing manufacturer that supplies products to the global industrial and naval industries, has announced the incorporation of a U.S. business, Michell Bearings Inc.The incorporation will allow customers in North America, especially those in the U.S. naval industry, to collaborate with Michell Bearings in more efficient way, the company said. It will also assist Michell Bearings in providing engineering and manufacturing content on future programs from the United States.Located within an 8,500 sq. ft. facility in Sioux Falls, S.D., Michell Bearings Inc.

Rolls-Royce Marine is taking a leading position in developing and introducing the systems and technologies needed for the running of a successful business in the maritime industry of the 21st century. At a company presentation held in London earlier this year, Mikael Mäkinen, President of Rolls-Royce Marine, outlined the company’s vision for the future and its strategies to put these new systems based on new technologies into place.

Rolls-Royce to Sell Michell Bearing Business

Rolls-Royce has today confirmed its intention to sell its Michell Bearings business to British Engines Limited for a cash consideration of £12.6m. Subject to licence consents, the sale will be completed in the autumn. Michell Bearings has been part of the Rolls-Royce Marine business for the past 15 years and is a premium designer and manufacturer of hydrodynamic bearings for a wide range of marine and industrial applications. Michell Bearings consists of a business based in the UK, located in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and a 51% shareholding in Michell Bearings (India) Pvt Ltd, a non-wholly owned subsidiary company based in Bangalore. Vickers Positions For Marine Propulsion Domination

Vickers PLC has recently made a major commitment to the marine market, most recently with its acquisition of Norwegian propulsion company Ulstein Holding for $476.8 million. Maritime Week contacted Vickers PLC CEO, Baron Paul Buysse for his take on this venture, as well as his inside strategies and goals for the future of the new company. MW: Why the heavy investment in marine at this point in time? Where do you see growth opportunities in short-term? Long-term? PB: After the divestment of Rolls Royce and Cosworth, Vickers plc was left with three strong engineering divisions: Defense, Turbine Components and Marine. In the Marine division we have very strong brand names such as Kamewa, Rauma, Aquamaster, Brown Brothers and Michell Bearings.
